Stereo Install Pics?
Stereo Install Pics?
Does anyone have any detailed install pics showing wire routing?
I see some mount the amp under the pass seat and some on the back wall. I want to use a thunderform because of its fit and finish but don't know if I can mount an amp around it without losing any room for the seat travel.
Also, any suggestions for speaker placement? Do I want 4 speakers in the stock locations + the subs or maybe just seperates in the doors? If I go with 4 speakers and the subs will I need more than 1 amp?
Sorry for all the questions but I repair this stuff for a living and never get involved in the install end until now (I don't trust anyone with the truck). Ideally I would love to have an experienced installer work with me but that'll never happen.

I just ran all the power wires along the door sill and the sides, then i ran my RCAs down the transmission hump. There is a third amp under the passenger seat that can't be seen.

I'm not going to get into full detail but the basic's-
1. If your going to do a sub, I would not recommend speakers in the rear factory locations, you really don't need them, if your hell bent on them than use coaxails.
2. Use the factory locations in the door and depending on buget do seperates in a custom plate or a high quality coaxial, kick panel pods are available and can sound great if there set up right, you can also do seperates in the with a mid in the factory location and a tweeter higher in the door or AC vent.
3. wire runs- Keep your battery run and turn on lead seperate from your RCA cords and speaker wires, I like running those wire on different sides of the tranny hump, away from there there going to be stepped on. Keep the grounds to a single point as close to the amp(s) as possible.
4. FUSE THE BATTERY LEG NO MORE THAN 10 INCHES FROM THE BATTERY WITH THE PROPER SIZE FUSE. wire up the equipment then install the fuse.
5. Don't cut the factory radio harness-spent the money and get a harness to make the connection painless.
6. amp fit under the seat is trial and error- break out our trusty tape and start measuring as for fit with thunderforms I'm not sure about seat travel.
and finally take your time, for a three hour job plan on the weekend and have some fun. Good luck, Todd

here you go. Not a thunderform, but you get the idea:

That box, cost me about an inch of leg room. I went back and rebuilt it and had the seat all the way back. I'm 6'2 and it was fine. And for how loud it was, lets just say I was pissing neighbors off two blocks away.
its funny you ask about finished pics. The truck has undergone so many changes it is not even funny. As a matter of fact the only thing that is the same is the kick panels. Someone tried to steal the truck in December and trashed the interior when they failed. Needless to say I had to start over, but I spent from 1/03 to 5/03 on the road. We recently got started again and have made the following changes:
z919 gone replaced by panasonic 7200DVD
Memphis amps gone replaced by 1001BD and 551S (RF)
Box gone, starting tomorrow morning on new box with a really sweet amp rack design.
seats, split into buckets with the expy console mod
radar moved from dash to instrument cluster.
I promise we will move quickly this time and I will post picks as we go.
Also, the radio change dictated we do something different as the aftermarket mounting kits just plain suck. So we had a custom trim panel made that really looks sweat.

Did somebody need pictures of wiring??

I recommend some Components up front. Forget about the rear speakers, as they are pointless in a standard cab. Tweeters go here:
