there are 2 new viruses that ARE very similar to old email viruses. They find addresses on the PC of the infected user and send their infected payload to and from those addresses. Since my addresses are ALL over the internet I have received hundreds of infected emails and tens of bounce notifications from emails i never sent. Clearlty at least one or more folks in the Lightning community are infected. The ONLY thing you can do in these cases is make sure your PC has current antivirus software and DON'T open unexpected files from ANYONE

Im quite lucky to have to protection methods from incoming viruses. One is through Scroad Runner and the other is my Nortons Corp Edition. I saw your email disguised as some loser from AOL. Im glad you got my email and youre aware of whats going on. If you are using Windows 2000 or XP, get your butt over there and get patched. Also sign up for Microsoft Technet and get your security bulletins emailed to you.

zbornac,
It's not your fault and there really isn't anything you can do to stop it. Hopefully, people simply won't open the attachment. They could blame you too, but it's not your fault.
A few months ago, I was getting 5-10 infected e-mails a week from my own e-mail address. Only variation was that they were from ajragno instead of Adam Johnson. It was a Klez virus. I think it was pretty busy too, because the traffic on my Website jumped from around 15-20 hits a day to 50-75 hits a day for a few weeks.
If you search the internet for Klez Virus, there is a lot of info out there about how these viruses operate.

IF you are running an early version of Xp and you have not done your update this next statment may convince you too.
The earlier version of Windoows Xp was originally set up with a "plug n play" networking port and anyone know how to use a port scanner can find you and eventually connect with your port.
Your anti virus wont do anything to protect you from this type of hacking, your only protection would be a firewall.
Get the update.

Universal Plug and Play was a service that would be loaded on startup. UPnP is for morons who dont know how to set their own ports up in a router/firewall software. The way UPNP is supposed to work is the application says, ****, please open port 5150 so this aol dweeb can send you some ****. The computer then opens 5150. Problem with XP is, it forgets to close the damn port after opening it. Whoops.
The hotfix that addresses this problem pretty much disabled UPnP. With SP1 out, the problem has been repair. I have it disabled on my setups and it will remain that way. When i want a port open, ill do it myself.
BTW. If anyone needs a better Viri prog, lemme know and ill hook you up.
