Noob Here

Hey guys, got a noob here.

I just picked up a used black 01 Lightning! I just love the truck. I have had it for almost a week now and I already want to start doing some mods. First though I do have some questions that maybe you guys can answer for me.

1.) Any flaws in the 01 L I need to attend to?

2.) What kind of oil and filter do you guys recomend? (I live in southern California)

3.) Who is in my area to purchase mods and tune Lightnings'.

4.) Looking for a billet grill. Do they make it for this year and model? Any info is appreciated.

Can't think of anything else right now. Bare with the noob here guys If any of you guys live in my area and want to meet up I would love to check out some other lightnings.

Thanks in advance everyone.

All the '99s had leaky intercoolers. Make sure yours has had the recall done. (If it hasn't, I'll sell you my upgraded intercooler for a lot less than a dealer).

Make sure your front driver's side A-arm bolts are not slipping (99% do). If they are, you need a set of Herb's washers and a cam bolt kit.

Any good synthetic 5w30 oil will work fine in your truck. And the stock Motorcraft filters are very good, too, and you can get them cheaply at Wal-Mart.

The best compendium of Lightning information can be found on this site:

Tim Skelton, what a guy!

For oil, I recommend Chevron or Castrol for conventional oil (this will work excellent, regardless of what the synthetic advocates say), or if you want to run synthetic, I would go with Mobil 1 (not because it's anything better than the other synthetics, but because it's readily available. If you want some top of the line sysnthetic, for a few bucks more you can get Royal Purple or Redline (not really necessary, but it's your money). I would go with a 5w-30.

As for filters, I would stick with the Motorcraft or the Purolator 0ne. Don't fall prey to the much more expensive Mobil 1 filter or K&N filter. They don't offer any more performance.

Good luck with your new beast. You'll soon be a welcome client of the nearest gas station and tire store.

If you do get a new grill, get ahold of me as I have a buddy that is looking for a 01+ stock grill.

Vinni, that grill looks really good!

Kvv8, I actually live in Orange County well on the border of Orange and La but I work right outside downtown La.
