Beat by a Harley SC! Please Help!!!
I have a stock L and I have posted before asking how to reach 12's.
I had a 2003 Harley roll up on me and we got a red light at the next intersection. We both left hard, but he pulled away. I got a chance to stop and talk to the guy, who is now a supercharged Ford truck buddy, he told me about his setup and I wanted all of your thoughts.
He has a Metco interchangable pulley (currently @ 6), a superchip programer (his take is that it's better than a chip so that Ford can't void a warranty as easy) sounded like an excellent idea to me, glasspacks instead of a full cat-back system (truck sounded very mean) and the Purple ... oil (sorry I can't remember the full name).
Ok I am open to suggestions. I am thinking about the same set-up.
Are these good pieces? He has about 5k on the truck and claims no problems so far. Is this a ticking time bomb? I a actual chip better? Are Metco pulleys good quality?
I am looking for any and all opionions (sp?).
I have to admit if I had to lose, at least it was to a fellow blown Ford.
Ok let's hear it!!!!!!

01 L w\25k
Diablo $200 (single pgm)
Diablo re-tune $50
Upper 2# $90 ($200 to have upper installed)
Lower 4# $235
160 deg Thermo $16
Denso's $90 ($68 now)
Air $45 k&n (bottom removed from stock box)
----------------------------------
$926
I have not had it to the track yet but I am fairly certain I would be in the 12's.
Remember though, there is always risk with mods. I have a good tuner and I am running a safe tune plus I am not that hard on the L, (stock tires have 25k on em') but there is always a chance I could hurt the engine when I do play, but I am willing to take that risk, are you?. If I had it to do over I would do the same maybe without the upper.
4# and chip and he couldn't have touched you!

Are the HD really that quick?! How fast are they stock? My mom is going to be trading in her Durango soon and wants a new truck. She likes the pickup trucks with the 4 doors like the HD. The thing she loves the most, and is most important, is that 'winding noise, sounds like its sucking air'. I explained to her what it was in my truck
And that ford has a truck for her. The HD ... which has the blower on it.
I'm just courious how fast those things really are! After reading this post, crazy! My mother might kill herself! Hehe... And do they come 4x4? Or just 2x4 just like the Ls?

That would suck and I feel your pain. For the best bang for your buck go get you a 4 or 6 pound pulley and a chip single program chip that is tuned for your exact set-up, gasoline and altitude.
I run a 6# on a daily driver with no problems. (I also have a boatload of other bolt-on mods). IMO the stock L is a pig; these two bolt ons will wake it up and get your attention. You will not believe the difference you will feel. For less than $500 you can go Harley-hunting.

NeedFourSpeed,
I knew someone would feel my pain.
The L is getting a new grill and drop today, but I will be ordering a pulley today or Friday.
Does anyone know about Metco? Superchip programer?
Is there a best quality pulley??
Is there a best quality Chip??
C'mon people sound off.

evo - you CAN run a 6lb pulley with no chip or with a micro tuner. but i wouldn't, and most would agree its not the safest combo. i would not run extra boost without a custom tuned chip and some new plugs...but thats just me.

I am using a micro tuner and was advised that I should use a chip for these kinds of mods. I know you can use it, but it's like a generic program. To fully utilize the mod to it's fullest potential a dyno and chip tune would be the way to go.

First off if your L is currently stock then Need For Speed is not that far off, I wouldn't exactly call the fastest truck on planet Earth a Pig, but I understood what he meant.
To have a L and not take advantage of the Mod's should be a crime
A good flowing Cool Air Filter System (like JLP/PSP) will add 2lbs of boost and a noticeable amount of HP. YOU NEED THAT
A 4lb Pulley alone with that filter will give you a 12 second truck
instantly with slicks, bars, loop, and a good PCM Program
UNDER THE CORRECT CONDITIONS. I run 12.7's and 12.8's all day with filter-chip-n-4lb pulley and a Accu-Fab Throttle Body (also a great Mod)
Chips have always been the way to go, and still remain the single most important Mod and HP/Torque adder we have (other than a KB or Works aftermarket S/C) but soon that will change.
I can't speak for the Super Chip programmer but I can tell you Diablo's Predator will change everything. It will be un-detectable to Ford, it will come with a CUSTOM PROGRAM FOR YOUR TRUCK AND MODS, """NOT A GENERIC PROGRAM"""" and you will be able to tweak it up and down.
It will do EVERYTHING a Chip does, and it's adjustable.
You need to understand ALL THESE MOD'S and what you want before you throw your wrrnty in the garbage. They are WELL WORTH IT, and like need for Speed say's THEY WAKE IT UP LIKE YOU CAN'T IMAGINE.
Get a Filter-chip-n-pulley and then slicks, bars, and loop
and you'll be in the 12's.
I am currently running 6lbs and it's safe if you understand it, and YOUR TUNE
GOOD LUCK BRO

Nobody should ever claim their pulley or their chip is the absolute best. Do a little search and you find all kinds of debate on pullies(caged or no cage); Search "tuner wars" and see the kind of crap that goes on with that one.
I personally run a JDM pulley setup and a JDM Superchip (flipchip) and have nothing but great things to say. My dyno sheets and A/F readings are sweet. With that said, there are many other people happy with the other tuners out there, and, we are lucky in that they are all stand-up guys who just want to service their customers and make these trucks fly.
Now go get that 6# pulley, a chip and some seatcovers because you will ***** in your pants when you hammer the throttle

Sorry so late to respond, life gets in the way of my toys once and a while.
Rob,
Thanks for all the info. Your truck is truly a bad boy and I hope th be there before the short Alaska summer. I am also looking for a meaning sounding exhaust system. What do you think about the JLP vs Magnaflow vs Bassani??
NeedFourSpeed,
What kind of seat covers do your recommend? The idea of staining my seat really bugs me.
What is your take on the JLP vs Magnaflow vs Bassani?
Thanks Guys!!

. Probably a lot of depate on exhaust. Some swear by Bassani, others have had bad experiences with their cats crapping out. To my knowledge, nobody has done any real tests to see which produce the most HP. I would suggest going to a FFW and talk /listen to people and their trucks.
