Daily Drivers With 6lb Pulley Questions?
6# in Kansas with no detonation on the hot side of the chip. When it gets cool I do have to flip it over to the other side. When I was in Texas a couple of years ago I ran 93 octane and I swear I could provoke some detonation on the highway whereas I couldn't do that at home running BP Gold (92 octane).
You can always drop in a gallon of Toluene for $6 and see if that cures your blues. I do that alot when the weather gets cool and I still want to run the hot side of my chip.

I've bought the Xylene (117 octane) from Sherwin Williams in 5 gallon cans for $6.60 a gallon. I bought a 55 gallon drum from one of the members here for $3.07 a gallon; unfortunately by the time you added the $25 drum fee and freight it was $5.27 per gallon (comes from Portland). Still much better than I've found local. I have a friend who can get me a discount on the freight, so I believe the next drum will be at $4.43 a gallon.

Man there's alot of great ideas! Wow thanks folks!
Thats worth a try. I have been watching it like a hawk. I have my boost warning gauge set at 10lbs of boost and its still very easy to go over. I'm glad I bought that recall gauge, its paying off now.I just had my chip reburned. I asked for a safe program with 92 octane just in case I got bad gas. My beater car is going to be repaired this weekend and I poss. will send my chip back to Jim. If I can get the chip out and back quick enough I will make our Dyno Day. I trust Jim and he'll fix me up. I just never expected to get detonation with a safe program, and I thought that my only choice was to go back down on the pulley's. Thanks for the help, I appreciate it!

TC - FWIW Jim has tuned the chip in my truck so it should just be a matter of adjusting for your truck. I remember another guy rom TX who used to have detonation problems until he added toluene and he was running Texaco 93. There are different formulations of gas and even different ways of calculating octane ratings. I didn't like the one tank of TX gas that I got but maybe that was an isolated problem.
I recommend using Toluene instead of Xylene because of the way it burns. Most people don't realize the Toluene makes up between something like 30-50percent of gasoline. Add a gallon to fifteen gallons to start and see if that helps. If not, add a gallon to 10 gallons of gas. If the 1:15 works then you could always try 1:20.

J15Big, who built your new engine? Its odd that your truck always detonates (you posted this a while back). You may have oil blow-by, migrating past the rings into the CC, leaky valve seals ect. You should not have detonation all the time with your built motor. Oil has an octane of ~80, my guess is there's oil contaminating the combustion charge.
