Question Do I need clunk washers for this?

I was changing my oil under my truck and looked over at my passenger front tire and the inside tread block is completely smoothed off. I had an alignment done to my truck about the middle of last year for the front tires flairing on the outsides, and now this only about 2000 miles later. I just ordered 2 F1's from the Tire Rack and I know i will need at least another alignment to fix this, but do I also need clunk washers? I don't have the clunk but i think i read that they were needed to fix this as well, but i just want to make sure before i spend the money.

Thanx,
Bill

Remember to install the clunk washers AFTER the alignment.

Sir Speedy: Is it true the clunk washers do not allow adjustment of caster after installed?

NO NO NO

If you install them after, the alignment for which you just paid is money wasted.

Easy install..

Buy washers and cam bolts
Install washers and bolts
grease steering stops
Take to alignment shop with these specs:

Lightning specs (Ford):
L.H. Caster: 6.9, +/- 1.0 Deg.
R.H. Caster: 7.4, +/- 1.0 Deg.
L.H. Camber: -0.5, +/- 0.7 Deg.
R.H. Camber: -0.5, +/- 0.7 Deg.
L.H. Toe: -0.05, +/- 0.15
R.H. Toe: -0.05, +/- 0.15

Lightning Owner preferred:
LH Caster 6.7
RH Caster 7.2
LH Camber -0.5
RH Camber -0.5
LH Toe -0.05 (slight toe in)
RH Toe -0.05 (same)

Enjoy freedom from clunkdom, or something.

Bob

I can't find the thread (with pictures) on the cam bolt install. My washer install pictures are at the end of this thread:

Every Lightning has the potential for the clunk, it just may not have happened yet.

How it goes is the slot on the lower a-arm is part of the factory alignment, and the upper a-arms are both in a fixed position. Installing the slotted washer in the lower a-arm messes up the alignment. And with both lower and upper a-arms all now being in a fixed position you cannot re-align the vehicle. So the cam bolt kits are needed to replace the fixed bolts on the upper a-arms to allow for an aligment.
