Okay, I used the word melt, but I should've used broken. When Bassani had all the broken cat problems it was because the exhaust heat that was generated by the modified trucks broke the cats. If you overheat a cat it will actually crack the brick inside which causes it to rattle. If you leave a broken brick inside the cat housing it will actually break itself into little pieces and shoot out the tail pipes. I am saying the chip on side 2 that Mat is running is way to lean for his truck. How I know this, because I had actually built that program for JJ before I banned him from being a dealer of mine. The chip was designed for a 2001 Lightning with no pullies, no long tube headers, basically a stock truck that wants a chip. That is the same program that JJ burnt for Mat's brother. A couple days after JJ burnt him that program his truck blew up.

Mat,

When I had spoken to you yesterday on this I thought this is a problem you wanted to fix instead of having to keep replacing your cats so I told you I would reburn your chip to your old program. I know the program in your truck now because I built it. That's the reason why I told you side 2 is too tean for your truck. If I had known you would've called JJ right after I got off the phone with you and tell him our conversation I would've added in there that this is a guy "meaning JJ" who has been banned off every Lightning board out their. Lost two distributorships for not knowing what he's talking about. On his website it says that he is here to help serve the Lightning community. "Wheredidjoego" was the reason I pulled JJ's distributorship from us. Nitro Lightning was also one of JJ's board names, he named himself after his dog. I could go on and on with his false baord names between here and NLOC. This includes Grey03. So, tell me how he is helping out the Lightning community, he was banned of every board out their. He's also been served papers legally by a couple of his suppliers for not paying his bills. Taking money from the Lightning community and putting it in his pocket instead of paying his bills. I mean if you're banned off of one board you could say ok, maybe the moderator didn't like him but when you're chased off of every board out their and his own message board even fails you could honestly say this is a person the Lightning community has no use for. The moderator of this board by leaving Grey03 up here is making that point. I mean common Mat you think it's cool that you get off the phone a guy that's helped you out for two years and call JJ a guy that's blown your brother's motor up and have him post on the board under one of his false board names?

Wow.. that post sent this thread down the tubes.
Just to err on the side of uncertainty, there is no reasons expressed here why this person, JJ, was banned from any sites. All of the times I've seen him banned were because of his comments against JDM, not because of his customer service or his actual business. Matt, you are the customer and should always be in control of your vehicle and it's situation, so it's good that you call around and talk to multiple people about a situation. You shouldn't be coerced out of communicating with Person A by Person B because Person A and Person B don't like each other.

As far as paying bills problems... I've been reading here for years now, and I don't think I've seen a single vendor yet who's come under pressure for bills. That's business, it has it's ups and downs, and times when bills slip *shrug* You could take many of the above comments and apply them to dozens of others on here.

But, as far as the whole JDM vs. JJ thing, egads, give it a break. Let's talk Lightnings... or more to the point, let's talk melted converters.
I haven't heard many negative stories about high-flow cats, I have a set of Bassani on my Gen1 now. Maybe it's just my limited perspective, but I've seen more Gen2 Lightnings (and '03 Cobras) with cat problems than many other vehicles.

Angry

Just to get one thing straight here, when I hung up the phone with you Jim I didn't call ANYONE. The only one that I told about out converstion is my brother. So this post by Grey03 was brought up on his own free will. -Mat-

Brian,

Just because JJ comes over and washes your truck for you every Saturday morning LOL and cries on your shoulder that the big companies are putting him out of business the facts are he was chased off the Florida site for lying to the members and not keeping true to his word. He was banned off F150 online while he was my dealer and I almost got banned off F150 online for standing up for him. The reason he was banned was lying to the members and breaking F150 online rules. He was banned off of SVTPerformance.com for too many different board names and bashing the two other supporting vendors their. I just recently found out he's been banned off of NLOC for making statements after Johnny had him removed from his section and I know there is more on NLOC but I don't know what it is. So, what do you think are you afraid he won't come over and wash your truck for you if you don't stick up for him?

Mat,

Just got off the phone with you. You told me you did not talk to JJ and that it was just a coincidence so it was my bad.

Jim: Do you actually think these types of posts will increase your business or your reputation? Whoever Grey03 is, he provided good info and you had to go and let this thread deteriorate to another "he said she said" p!ssing match.

I am also skeptical of Grey03 being JJ, but the info provided was very helpful. Why ruin a perfectly good thread? And do you have info that Grey03 = JJ or do you not have evidence to support this claim as well?

No dyno variables and such here bud.

Jim,

The last time I checked, JJ is still a distributor for Johnny Lightning and he and JL have a fantastic relationship. If anyone doubts that, just call JL or Sue.

I dont know anything about all the legal stuff you bring up here, on a public forum that is available in a nice printer friendly version, but you better be able to back up all your statements.

Your no Daisy.

Mat,

You know what your dealing with here right?

Why? I thought the initial post included some great information that Lightning owners who are interested in hi-flows etc. would appreciate.

Let's get this thread back on track though.

Do you somehow think I have an emotional attachment to JJ? I haven't seen the guy in maybe 3-4 months, haven't talked to him in just as long. It's not that easy to group all the people that speak against you into the JJ "friends and family" category. Anyhow, this is a technical thread.. it got off base when you decided to use it as a place to bash another member of the Lightning community. And there's always two sides to every story. I'm a moderator too on NLOC, so I could see the Admin forum, and I saw the thread that existed that started the ban process, about vendor fees and the vendor page, before the thread was quickly deleted. Nothing about him and JL having differences in there *shrug*

As far as the Florida SVT site, ah well. I stopped going there when employees of your company were calling other Lightning owners homosexuals.

You might add that making ANY changed to your exhaust system before 50k or more miles is also against similar federal regulations. Sticking to the letter of the law, Depending on what you read unless the cats are broken or plugged you cant change them for high flow cats...
Give me 5 minutes and a tool and I'll give you broken cats that need replacing

Back to the subject at hand here Jim,

The only way you can overheat a cat is with the presence of raw fuel or it being way too close to the cyl heads, with raw fuel present.

Your explanation of " broken" still infers that the truck was too lean and the cats got hot enough to crack, break or melt, that is not the case. The cats need raw fuel as a catalyst to start overheating, a lean mixture wont do that.

Cats can function normally at temps near 1400 degrees with no ill affect to the substrate, they are heating up because they are chemically converting HC's into H20 and C02, it creates this heat by bonding 02 molecules with the H and C molecule, it also makes N02 by bonding the nitrogen molecule with a 02 molecule, so a functioning converter will run hot to begin with from the chemical reaction going on inside, unless the vehicle runs clean to begin with. The converter must reach an internal temperature of 500-600 degrees before it begins to do any oxidiation.

Meltdown occurs at an internal cat temp from 1700-2500degrees, and only with raw fuel present from a rich mixture.

Maybe mat has a defective converter to begin with and it is just broken inside from some other physical defect from manufacturing, and I believe that is the case here. So warranty it for the guy and be done with it.

The Bassani's had problems because of the "shorty header" design, the precats were right there after the shorties and modified trucks that ran a tad rich were melting them.(plus the converter company they were using was junk) The long tube system cats are about 3 feet away from the heads (give or take a few inches) so there isnt any massive heat transfer from the heads to the converters from a lean mixture, especially 1700-2500 degrees

I hope this helped clarify some more info on how the converters work and what lean/rich means when it comes to the life of the cats.

Thanks for your time.

Any rebuttal Jim?

I just want to make sure that I covered the topic sufficiently enough so that everyone understands that Mats converter problem doesnt stem from a bad tune.

As far as his brothers truck is concerned, I dont believe JJ blew it up. He wasnt driving that truck anymore than you were when your customers shot rods out the block, right Blackjack?
