Doh!

Well I heard a funny noise from under my truck last night.... I crawled under and found out the transmission line that runs right under the new 4lb pulley ahd slipped and was rubbing on the pulley.

It's worn through a good bit of the metal (the wide part around the rubber line where it meets up with the hard line)

Two questions:

1) How much of a pain in the *** is it to change this line?

2) Should I even be worried about it?

Coldie.

2) It depends on how worn it is. You don't want it to snap since I'm sure it has some purpose...whatever it may be.

from what i remember the only trans line that is by the pulley is the one that will go all the way back to the trans, and it will be a pain to replace, not so much to just replace, but i dont think ford sells pre bend lines, so bending is in order, and i personally have never gotten the hang of it.

But it should be fixed, the way i would fix is to cut the metal line on either side of the rubber line and install compression fittings on either side with barbed fittings, and connect the two, where there was already rubber line, with rubber trans line or braided line..or just go fron the metal line to what ever to attaches to (e.g. one of the trans coolers..)

MISTERgadget asked me to post here that that line is the transmission cooler line. Make sure it doesn't slip back and keep rubbing against the pulley, if it were to start leaking and the transmission were deprived of fluid, you're going to be shopping for a new Monster Box from Greg.

Yup, it's the cooler line. It in fact did slip back which caused the problem. It is now securly held in place

i was under there today, are ya sure it is the trans line, the power steering is the only line with a rubber insert that is close to my pulley, and that goes to a cooler as well, my trans lines at the point of being by the pulley are metal all the way up to by the i\c pump, if that is the cas it will be a much easier fix, since ford sells these pre formed..
