How Long Do the Factory Brakes Last ?

I'm at 11K these days and their squeaking like hell, annoying

Is that just normal, or could they be bad already ???
The peddal's going away A LITTLE, but they seem to still stop as schitty as when new

When are you guys + gals changing them ?

Rob,

There is a "wear" indicator steel piece that purposefully
squeaks to bring the fact that your brakes are shot to
your attention. If you hear that, you endanger your rotors
by continuing to drive. I think you can only turn rotors
once on these trucks and the new ones will cost about 135
apiece.

BTW ... My stock ones lasted an hour .... <grin> with NEW
pads ....

I say we just... stop using brakes. Honk a lot, speed, and play a little 'dare'. Think of the money we'll save on brakes!

(think of all the body repair work when we hit stuff

Rob, I have 13K on my L, and the brakes started squealin around 7K or so, drove me up a wall! I just changed front an back with the Napa cermix. They havent squealed 1 bit yet, and have had them on for about 4K. Plus i was lookin for somethin with less brake dust since my 20 inch Boyds should be here hopefully today! Take care, Jeff

Rob,
41K daily-driven miles on '01 original brakes. Apprears to be 50% left on the front. If only the F1's would last that long.

I have a little more than 12k on her now and so far they are holding up (knock on wood).

Since Brembos are out of the question, I may try a set of Hawks next....especially after I use up my stock ones at IRP this July

Maybe that your problem Rob!

Your riding the brakes running down the 1/4, get your foot off the brake and you'll get that 11

Mine was squeeking from about 5000 miles. Kept checking them and finally changed them at about 21,000 miles and the pads on the engine side of the rotors where almost gone whereas the outside had about 50% left.

They work great on a regular truck... I had some pad desposits from them on the rotors though after running an auto-x. Of course I take "late-braking" to the extreme, its more fun.

At 45000 miles I first noticed a rumble / vibration on braking. Stoping power seemed OK and I never heard a squeel. The outside pads all looked OK. THE INSIDE RIGHT FRONT CALIPER APARENTLY WAS STICKING AND DESTROYED THE ROTOR AND ONE BRAKE PUCK. DON'T TRUST THE SQUEELERS TO WARN YOU IN TIME.

I have replaced both front rotors and had trick prototype pads built for all four corners. The pads are Ceramic Street/Autocross that should not leave dust and have GREAT stopping power. The company that built them is willing to make a production If we can sell 100 sets. The downside of having even more stopping than stock is that the brakes will better convert energy to heat and these pads may make the stock rotors and calipers even hotter. I will be trying a few high speed load tests soon and take some temp readings.

stock lightning brakes suck monkey *****!

We need to have someone make us brakes that are pretty close to the same size for us drag racers that will stop allot better and reduce the fade aswell.

brembo's are nice but then you can't even fit a 16 inch wheel on front, screw that.
