Extended Warranty Question
Extended Warranty Question
I have the 60,000 mile extended warranty on my truck, but with all the talk of warranties being cancelled I'm wondering if I should just get my money back (~$1500). Has anybody here had any work done under the extended warranty (Lightning or non-Lightning)? When I bought my truck they said it covered the supercharger and the other main components of the drivetrain (I also saw this in the brochure so it was not just the salesman saying this), but my faith in Ford and warranties has kinda gone out the window. My L is an everyday driver and the only thing I have done to it is a Flex-A-Lite 270 E-Fan. Any info or thoughts would be great.
Well, I just bought the 6yr,75k ESP. My drivetrain is totally stock, so I'm not worried about voiding my warranty. My only concern is the quality of service I'll get if something goes wrong.
I wasn't planning on getting the ESP, but I'm going back to school full time, and won't be able to a-Ford fixing a blown plug, blown tranny, etc. So I'll just keep it stock, and enjoy driving the best friggin truck in the world.

That's my concern as well. It seems Ford has denied many warranty claims without conclusive evidence that it's the owner's fault. I like the idea of having an extended warranty, but if the chances are Ford will deny any warranty work if something goes wrong with my truck then why pay for an extended warranty. That's why I wonder if it would be better to simply get my money back and put it in the bank for when something does go wrong I can pay for it. Also, I just thought of the fact that most likely the supercharger will give out more towards the 100k mark (not within my 60k warranty) and the main reason I bought the warranty is to cover any problems with the supercharger. Seeing that a new supercharger is $3-4k this was my biggest conecern and the specific reason I got the extended warranty. Again, has anybody here had any work done under the extended warranty? Any info would be a great help b/c I have 34k on the truck right now so I only have 2k to decide to keep or get rid of the ESP.
If you stay stock you will be ok.. Don't be afraid of a few horror stories... But if you mod your probably throwing your money away.. Good Luck.............

Viper8...I don't know if they told you this, but they pro-rate your extended warranty from the mileage on the vehicle. If you've got 34k on your truck on a 60k warranty, they're only going to refund 43% of your purchase price. You also have to apply to the dealership that sold the extended warranty for a refund; not any dealer can give you a refund. I found this out the hard way when I traded in my Cobra with only 11k miles, and they chopped off about 15% of the purchase price of the extended warranty, even though I thought it hadn't gone into effect. If you paid $1500, you're only gonna get back about $600-$650.
agh!!! I didn't think they did the prorating with Ford Extended Warranties. Well, I guess that answers my question... keep the warranty. I'll mod the living f@#* out of the next lightning I get and keep this one pretty much stock so I don't void the darn warranty that I paid for. Thanks for the info.
