Angry The Clunk While Turning?

Ok, of course I know about the clunk and that is usually happens while reversing and having the wheel turned, correct? Well, for a while now I hear the clunk while making semi sharp turns at slow speeds(going forward)? WTF? Does this happen to anyone else? Its embarrasing when I have people in the car or there is people looking at the truck and im leaving then all of sudden CLUNK. Not to mention the loud belt/pulley noises that make the truck sound like its from the 80s. Anyway, should Herbs washers fix this problem or is that something else wrong with my truck?

The clunk washers are not offered by Herb any longer ,if I'm correct. There is another guy in Georgia that makes the same product. Email me and I will forward his email address to you if you need it. I don't know if he is a supporting vendor or not, and don't want o get flamed for giving out info :o

Once you get the washers you will need an alignment, therefore needing new cam bolts/washers. 4 apiece Here are the Ford Part#'s if you need those as well:

CamBolts:
F65Z-3B236-BB

Cam washers:
F65Z-3C178-AA

I hope this helps and good luck.

JLP now has the washers available. It'll fix the problem.

I just bought some of those washers myself from David Lynn (DL). He is selling them for 30 shipped.

Here's his email: DLynn@colpipe.com

Don't be suprized if they don't fit exactly right.

I got the herbs washers and they didn't fill the entire hole up so I ended up just going with my welder and welding that washer of his to my lower control arm. I still get the clunk from the steering though. grease it up and it comes back, its annyoing.

Your Lightning is the only Lightning in the world that they didn't fit! I'm still waiting for a pic of the slot in the frame.

I will be getting my clunk washers shortly and will be going to my dealership probably this Friday for the install. Will tell them to lube up the steering stops as well and perhaps even pick up a set of Napa cam bolts....

Hope this will eliminate the clunk

Just go to a front end shop and have them inject some grease into the ball joints. The clunk is because they are dry from the factory. Did my 99 3 years ago and have not heard it since. You have to get a needle and inject it through the rubber boot. This will cure your problem. Skip

Uh it's MOST likely the steering stop or the actual rear lower control arm bolt that is moving causing the noise... The dry BALL joint is a new one on me...

I've heard greasing up the steering stops will alleviate the problem however it is a temporary solution.

However, I'm still confused how the cam bolts (Napa) fit into the equation

Cam bolts have nothing to do with the "clunk". All they do is allow you to get a better front end alignment once you lower your L. The cam bolts are the top 2 bolts that adjust the upper control arm. The clunk is on the lower control arm.. All you have to do is look at the head of the driverside rear lower control arm bolt and see if it is sliding...You will be able to see if the black paint has been scrapped...
Sometimes people here another clunk while turning and that is the dry steering stop. This stop is hit at FULL turn and if it is dry you can here a noise that some refer to as a clunk...
