03' L Fog lights

Have read in the archives here of per '03 L's fog lights not doing well in the rain, etc.. Many complaints of fog lights cracking. etc.. Anyway, are the fog lights on the '03's (2003 L's) having the same problems with the fog lights? Are the fog lights covered by warranty?

This has been a very common problem since the '01 L's came out.

I haven't gone to get mine replaced yet, but my dealership said they were covered under warranty.

I am curious whether the fog light design has been changed say in her '03 L. I read mention here the '03 fog light was different but then could find no info whether the fog light breakage due to heat/rain combo, etc. was still a problem with the '03 fog light??
Anyone?

Yes, 03 fog lamps have been modified. They removed the reflector in front of the bulb. I think that was causing it to retain a lot of heat, causing the plastic lens to crack. On my 3rd warranty replacement they put in 03 lamps and they have not cracked yet.

How many mile accumulated since the '03 fogs were put in? Do you use them in the rain? Thanks for the reply!

My 03 fogs haven't cracked yet but they fill with water and break the bulbs. I had them replaced several times already. Even the whole fog itself. Guess what just happened again. Another broken bulb. The water runs in from the bottom of the bulb and fills up with water. Then you hit a bump and hit the hot bulb and it is all over. I tried to seal the oring on the bulb better with grease. This worked for a while. I got 3 months instead of a week or 2. I am going to try drilling a small hole in the bottom to let out the water and see what happens. Any ideas are welcome because this sucks!

Any problems getting them covered under warranty. Did the Service Dept. seem to be aware of the fog light problems? Did they try to say road damage?

Angry Fog Lights

This really sucks about these fog lights cracking. Mine in my '01 L have been cracked for over a year, they're really bad now. I tried 4 different dealers, and the pr**ks all said the same thing, "ROCK DAMAGE", sorry no warantee. So I finnally broke down and odered a set, damn, those things aint cheap! I got them through work so I saved 20% and they still cost me $103 each. that really sucks, I just hope the '03 style lasts longer than the originals. Sorry , just had to vent.

03 L Fogs.

I have these on my 01L. They won't crack but like what was said before, they fill up with water and blow out your bulbs! I have been thru 2 bulbs already. Finally I pulled the housings out and dried them so there wasn't a drop of water in them then installed Silverstars(Great bulbs). I will go look outside now since I drove in the rain all night last night. -Mat-

I had no problems getting my fogs replaced by ford. It is going to suck after 36000. I just finished drilling a small hole in one to see if it lasts any longer.

I have an 02L and had mine replaced, covered under warranty, and now have the 03 version.. havent run them in the rain yet so dont know how they will do..

I thought about drilling a hole in the top and bottom to let out the heat and let the water drain out too.. just hadnt done it.. let me know how it goes or if it works..

You won't have to vent the top because they are vented already. If you look close you will see a hole and a round breather cap. I will keep you posted on my findings.
