Newb power questions

Ok feel free to make fun. I see people talking about 6# and 4# pulleys. What is the designation on the stock pulley, and what do these other pulleys do for you? If a stock pulley gives you 8 psi of boost, then what does the 4 or 6# pulley do better? Also are any of you running the oversized accessory drive pulleys? The Mustang guys I used to drink with, they were always talking about "Power pulleys". Are these types of replacement pulleys available for the 03 L's? One more thing, when you all bought your first Lightning, did you sit in the driveway with a 12 pack and just stare at it? . I don't wanna feel stupid here.

when we talk about pulleys......2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10# whatever. this is in addition to the stock 8# of boost we have. So if you were to get a 4# pulley you would now have 12# of boost.

the power pulleys you refer to are i believe.....underdrive pulleys, take a look here.

and yea welcome to the board, don't forget to save some beer for the lightning too.

One more thing. How much boost can a stock engine handle? 10 or 12 without breaking a sweat? And after I change the pulley, What kind of boost gauge do people run cause I am sure the stock one would be pegged all the time. Thanks guys. Oh, BTW, It is the funniest thing in the world to watch my wife drive the truck. She has this Perma grin from ear to ear every time she stomps down on the gas. I have a cool wife who likes to haul ***.

howdy. nice to meet you. My woman likes driving my truck too but she doesn't tell me that. I can never get a race, but when she drives it she gets all kinds of funny looks and people revving at her. I heard of stock motors handling up to 8lb. But you have to consider your chip tune and how you drive your truck. If you like driving high speeds for extended periods like me, i wouldn't go over 4 and thats with a conservative tune. If your going to do just short blasts then you can get more aggressive with your tune and pulley size. but i think 8 is really pushing it for a stock motor anyways. Just remember the bigger you go the more temp the blower is going to build up and that incoming air isn't cool anymore and thus might lose HP. so decide on whats your style of driving it and tell your tuner about it for your chip. get rid of the stock plugs and get a better air filter. as far as gauges there are alot. I don't even run one, nor going to...but its good for seeing how much boost your running. But i find myself looking more at the horizon and where i'm going than the boost gauge when you get in those high boost moments. With all that said, this is only my oppinion. Then your next question are going to be, what else can i do and how do i keep all that power to the ground. just do a search and you can find alot of useful info, and just read awhile
