Thumbs up Turning Lemons into Lemonade

Perhaps you read my thread about hitting a deer this past weekend. $7300 in damage everyone is ok accept the deer. To make myself feel better about the situation I decided I wanted the L to turn out better than before the wreck.

Perfect opportunity for the custom hood and billet grills. It'll be about a wash in terms of cost and I will get a few more mods that I have wanted.

I have pretty much decided on the AAD cobra hood; they are offering it for $545 now. Any vendors with a different options and offers? Need to know by tomorrow.

Second, I have read threads and am confused about the billet grills. Does anyone make a grill that fits a 2001 without cutting, tie-rapping....basically one that fits? I need one that replaces the original grill, not one that hangs over the top of it.

Thanks for any help.

I would stay with the 01/02 grilles and get a regular cowl hood... not a big fan of the cobra style hood... it belongs on a Cobra.

at least the Cobra hood is a Ford design! I never understood why people would put a cowl hood on a ford truck, when the cowl induction hood was a GM/Chevy design IMO it doesnt belong on a Lightning...now the pro-glass shaker hood, THAT is BADASS. no flame, JMO

A lot is personal choice. That is what makes customizing unique and fun. I just think the lines of the AAD hood work well with the L's. I could make an argument that the cowl hood belongs on a 69 z-28 and the shaker hood belongs on this or that. I like the stock hood and grill too.....just want to do something a little different since we are seeing more and more Ls.

I was going to have the grills powder-coated black; some of the older members will remember gorilla doing this and MRBBQMAN. In fact, I am totally ripping off gorilla since he has the same hood.

Lastly, I've got to bite the bullet and buy some 20s.....it never ends.

Yes AAD hood & Street Scene Grill

I did the same thing, Damn Deer!!!. Check my gallery for damage pics. About the same $$ too. Just over $7k. You're thinking just like me, time for hood & grill. One thing I would have also done is save on buying stock lights and go ahead and get the HID kits. I was so siked about getting the Hood and grill I forgot.

Note: WATCH OUT!!!
My AAD hood came nice and clean, ready to paint. Thing is with fit!! It's ~.5" too short from front to back and the rise toward the mid section (over the wheels) needed sanding down to get level. Body shop had to put several washers on the hinges and basicly centered it front to back. It looks great, but look close and in some of my pics and the shortness is visible. Also aftere fitting, then painted, it was too close on the hood latch (hood being short) that it rubbed the paint off the hood. All it took was grinding down on the hood release latch and all was ok.

Also, being that at the time SS didn't make a grill that would fit the '01 with out some tricks, I told them to order the Head Light assembly for the '00 in the same silve color. It came in and matched perfect. He wanted to know how the hell the 'clips' are supposed to hold it on. Using this great board I told him to just cut out the honeycomb grill from the '00 grill leaving the grill surround. He then rivited the SS grill to the stock grill surround. That thing ain't movin. I don't think it could fit any better.

All in all i wish it was perfect, but I'm not that ****. It looks great and I love it. Again check my gallery for all my pics.

I have never seen that hood before, I like the look, not as in your face as a 3 inch cowl and very slick. Nice choice, Todd

I have the carriage works grill and it fits great on my 03. I had to break off two small plastic tabs on the grill surround and that was it as far as modifications for the install, very happy with it.

Did you take out the old grill before putting in the CW grill?

Grayson is S of Lawrenceville, a bit West of Agusta. Closer to Stone Mtn.

Also, just thought about something else. While it is dismanteled, good chance to do any mods. Fan, pully, waterpump are all easily accessable with out any body.
