if i have to get new gears, i don't know if i should go back with the stock ones, or 3.73's or 4.10's... i drive the truck every day, so maybe 3.73's wont be too bad..

I think the 3.73's would be a good compromise. Serve you well as a daily driver, and give you a little better low end response. Good luck.

Dealership prices suck BIG TIME!

I had the "SVT" dealer across the street from my house quote a 4.10 install (different ford car / 8.8 rearend). They said it'll cost $950 for labor, $450 for a regular 4.10 R&P, and *about $300 for all the misc parts.

And here is the best part. They said they don't know if their "drivetrain specialist" can even do the swap!? And they are suppose to be a certified "SVT" dealer?????

I about puked on the spot. Not to mention NOT buying my new Lightning there just a few months after that.

WOT

I would not reuse the seals.

3.73s are a good compromise; I think I've heard of people running out of gear with short slicks and 4.10s.

Good luck - my repair bill for the deer I hit this weekend is right at 7300.00. Thank goodness for insurance.

I'm a firm believer in not cutting corners. It hurts, but you should replace the seals. Hey, it's only money and George W. promises we will all see more real soon....................Oh ya. Holding my breath here.

Well, he DID just sign the bill for $400 PER child direct
refund to the taxpayers of the nation ... Only good for
under 17 year olds though ... Mine still COST me a bunch,
but I can't get money back on them ... LOL

So i takes out my frustration here ....

That's too funny..............yea, I won't be seeing any of my money back either. (I say my money, since that's where George got it from in the first place)

Both of mine are Waay past the age limit.

Dude you are getting robbed. I had my gears installed by a local mechanic for $150.00. It's at most a 3 hour job. I would look to see if you can find someone other than a dealer to do the install.
