Front Plate Mounted. What do you think?

Best idea that I could come up with. Used some 3" nylon bolts with a large nylon washer behind and a wing nut. Will have to wait and see how the sticky velcro holds up to rain and what not, but the plate can come off in less than a minute if needed.

Hopefully it won't block the intercooler too much.

The funny part was that I got pulled over by a cop for no front plate, and also he says for spining the tires at the stop sign. I was driving down to the freakin hardware store for those nylon bolts. He gave me a fix it ticket. I got a little upset and asked where my spining the tires ticket is(excessive noise, reckless driving). He backed off on that claim saying I took off quickly from the stop sign. I told him that since I didn't break loose or speed I can accelerate as fast as I please up to the speed limit correct. He then says have a nice day.

I'm 37yrs old with grey hair, and this punk is pulling crap like this in a small town. I am talking with his supervisor today. I give him the pulling me over for the plate thing but the rest is B.S.

Sorry for the rant but man this truck attracts so much attention. The customs officer at the Canadian border wanted to know how much power it has. He even wanted me to rev it up so he could hear the S/C.

A kid didn't like the way I parked behind a gas station when I went in to get a newspaper. He wanted to make something of it. Stupid punk had to show ID to buy cigs. Another old fart in town called 911 couple of weeks ago because he didn't like the speed I was going in by a deserted warehouse. The list goes on and on. Hopefully nobody will key the thing. Thanks for letting me rant and if anybody wants to shrink the pics go ahead and do it.

I'm only 21 I never get pulled over.. well once.. on the express way no front license plate. He just gave me a warning and understood that I had no place to mount it and I didn't want to put holes in my bumper. He warned me and told me other cops might not be so understanding. But there are those type of cops out here by me MHM, just havn't ran into them yet I hope you get that 'wreckless driving' one removed. Thats rediciculous (spelling?). Take care!

BTW, Where did you get the brack at? The black license plate holder? I might have to try that. Better then really getting a ticket.

Looks good, I cant imagine it would block the intercooler too much, I'm sure a ton of air still comes in the sides.

The license plate holder is what came with the truck mounted upside down.

Just to clarify I did not get a wreckless driving ticket, he backed off on that claim because I didn't spin. sorry for the confusion.

Talking Hi

I do not normally chime in on this section of the board, but I do read it. I feel that it is needed this time! That is the most beautiful Lightning I have EVER seen!!!!! I like the dark shadow grey, is it hard to maintain? I can see why you get alot of attention, it is a SWEET looking ride.

BTW, I got a nice ticket the other day after installing my new Radix blower in the chuby......burned out of the parking lot after the dyno run....damn cop was eating lunch in his car parked in the lot accorss the street! Dammit!

Congrats on the L, I think it is SWEET!

these trucks sure do get a ton of bad attention. i have only been driving my L since this spring and the police have gotten me 5 times, all for iffy reasons, just a couple warnings though, mostly because i haven't been doing anything wrong. i have been driven a 79 trans am with straight pipes recklessly for 2 years and never once got pulled over. now i can't go anywhere without getting nabbed. hopefully i have just been unlucky so far.

Thanks man, I am all warm and fuzzy inside. The grey is quite easy to keep clean since it has alot of flake in the paint.

Thumbs up

plate location looks good, as does your nice clean bumper with no holes!

small town cops suck, they harass people with nice vehicles because they have nothing better to do. and our taxes pay their damn salary

Hey the thing is I like cops. They have helped me out in the past and I totally fine with paying them. Much like firefighters etc. we need them. It's like you said though, the picky stuff. All in all though they do a job that I sure wouldn't want to do so I always try to give them some slack.

Here in maine you have to run a front plate. Although The only ones to bother you are the young cops with something to prove , or the state poopers. $85.00 fine and my wife should know she got one in the jeep! So they drilled a plate holder in all of the new trucks on the lot as they come in including mine

Can you go into detail about what you did to the bracket as far as where you put the velcro and wingnuts, etc. I haven't drilled the bumper on my '02 yet, but have been warned once by the MAN.

Thanks

Yeah no problem. I only used the "soft" or loop side of the velcro. I got it two inches wide, self-sticking at a local hardware store and applied it around the edges that would touch the paint and two small pieces on the back of the plate where the plate screws would normally go.

I also purchased four (you only need two) 3"nylon bolts with a large washer and wing nut. I put these through the two main holes in the plate holder. These holes are the ones that are supposed to be drilled into the bumper.

The long bolts do not go straight since the grill interfears a little. But since it is nylon they can twist and bent slightly and still be okay. Hope this helps. BTW the plate is really sturdy and hopefully no scracthes.

First off, your truck looks great..
But, if you said that to a cop here in Maine he would have given you a ticket for (Imprudent Speed) Accelerating to fast, I would know since I have got that ticket a few times in my younger, more stupid years.
All I am saying is be careful for what you ask for because I would say he could have written you up for it.
Again your truck looks great...

Yes, in California that would have been exhibition of speed; don't have to speed or spin the tires, just accelerating "briskly" can get you a ticket, and it will stick believe me. We also have to have a front plate but I haven't had one on a toy for many years with no issues.
