Do the stock wheel plastic centres come off ...

... without taking off the lug nuts?

None of the other tech inspectors ever aked about the centres on my wheels before (2002 stock wheels) but last week a new inspector did. I said "as far as I know you they don't come off unless the lug nuts are off, the other inspectors all thought they were fine" and that seemed to be OK.

So is that true?

Question

Are you talking about the centercap that says SVT in the center?? You can take them off without removing the lugnuts. The lugnuts arent holding them on, like on other cars. It may be hard to try and get behind it to pop it off without having the wheel off the truck, but the lug nuts, to my knowledge, arent holding the center cap on the wheel, it is just snapped on in place. You do not have to remove the cap to get the nuts off. It's easier to get the cap off after removing the nuts--but why would you want to?

At the track they do not want you to run with anything (hub caps, wheel centres, etc) that might accidentally pop off during your run.

So no, I don't want to take the centre caps off. Unless the inspectors at the track make me do it.

Save some time, take the damn things off before inspection. You can take them off w/o remove the lugs, get a good grip and PULL!!

Never heard of that either, if the "inspector" told me that, I'd tell him what he could yank on

That's also the rules in the SCCA ... All removable
center caps (like ours) must be removed before
racing. The drag strip has the same rules I believe.

Just take them off.... It's for the protection of
the spectators mostly....
