Suggestions for hard starting?

I've used the search function but haven't found a topic that really fits my issue. My truck seems to take a little extra time whether it's cold, warm, hot, etc. It NEVER fails to start...just seems like it takes a good 2 seconds of holding the key over before it'll start. My previous 3 stangs would fire instantly. Anything I should look at, or is this a common thing? One other key note...this has happened since day 1 and I've got about 10K on the truck now.

I would say it is normal. My stangs always fired up that way too, but they are a totally different animal than these. (Assuming you are talking about '87-93 Mustangs).

1. Worn plugs--gap too large

2. If you haven't changed the fuel filter, do it NOW!

3. If you see black smoke when it starts, you may have a dirty fuel injector(s) that is leaking fuel when it's shut down--flooding one or more cylinders. Try a double-dose of a fuel inj. cleaner or take it to the dealer and have them do a pressure cleaning.

Search for cam position sensor. Post by DUCK01 7-17-02 pretty much sums it up.org thread TML/004127.html. Or the ECT sensor is malfunctioning per Lightningtuner.
