What year Lighting??

Hi Guys, I am looking at buying a super charged 2000 and up lighting. Is there any year lighting that is prefered and should I look for any certain options? I am wanting to make this truck run very well in the 1/4 mile. Is there a certain year that is better than another? I know some years on some vehicals have quirks and what not that make them less desireable or less easy to modify, is there any year that I should try to stay away from or are all of the super charged years the same?

Thanks for all your help.

I would say an 01 and up... Now before I get flamed 99/00 guys it is just because of the 90 mm MAF, the 3.73s and the Aluminum Driveshaft along with the updated appearance mods (Headlights and side mirrors..etc.).

I waited for the 01s for that reason.

Some people will say the 01/02 rods are not as good , but there is quite a few 11 second 01/02 guys (me included ) that have had no problem.

Also theree is that pesky intercooler recall that must be made sure it was done.

i'd go with the newer models (i love my 02) i just like the looks alot better and they supposedly have 20 more hp (although andy has proven that theory incorrect with his 99) either way, you can't go wrong with a L. also - the only option mine came with was a soft tonneau cover. everything else is standard.

it's spelled L-I-G-H-T-N-I-N-G...sorry had to...i hate it when people do that.

Vinnie thanks for the info. I am looking at a 2002 model at the molment. Would this truck need the ic recall done? If so, what am I looking for? I would like to see the truck run high 12s when I am done.

Gambino...sorry for the misspelling...gonna have to get a new name after I pick up the new truck :-)

02 had no intercooler problems so your fine there. high 12's thats gonna be VERY easy to do and as far as options go the only one is the bedcover, i believe.

not a problem man hehe many people spell it that way...

as far as high 12's...i hit a 12.97 @ 105.88mph in my 02L (on my F1s) with the following mods:

JDM flip chip
12" air filter
boost bypass
line mod valve
removed hitch

so high 12's isn't a hard goal to reach. i've yet to put a pulley on there. if i had money i'd have lots more on the truck but i have to save for a house. good luck!

WAIT

First it is spelled LIGHTNING.

Second whatever year you buy make sure it has the tow package.
it will have a trailer hitch on the back. WHY? Becuase that package also comes with an OIL cooler.
I have a '99 and upgrade all the parts (MAF, INTERCOOLER Not rear end gears, but I run High 12's and that's fast enough)

Save your money and get a '99 and upgrade it.

Or buy a new one with a warranty.

if you buy an 01-02 you pay like $3000-4000 more. granted you have a newer car, but if you buy a 2000 and upgrade it to match the 01-02 it would cost you about $1000. if you shop around.

plus, in my opinion, the 99-00 rims look better then the 01-02.

What if I did decide to go ahead and buy an 03? There is a dealer in PA that has 5 and is willing to deal...to like 30-31k I cant seem to find a used 02 with low miles for under 28k at that rate it it doesnt make sence to buy a used one.

When you say the 03s *** is to high...do you mean like in height?
What is differant about the blocks?

Apprecitate all the help.

Blocks were beefed up so they're supposedly quieter and stronger. I'd say the one real advantage of the '03 is the improved heads (more spark plug threads).

yeah the block is beefed up quite a bit from my understanding and yes the heads have more spark plug threads reducing that plug launching problem.

The rear end of an 03 is probably 2 or 3 inches higher than say an 02. It doesnt look bad when its alone but it looks odd when its side by side. Easily remedied.
