muffler pulled out of the pipe

I was heading home this a.m. and pulled out to pass a slow-moving 18-wheeler and as I got about halfway around him all of a sudden I had open exhaust. Pulled over and noticed that the inlet of the stock muffler (03 Lightning) had pulled completely out of the pipe and was hanging off to the side.

Is this an issue with these trucks? Can the engine torque move the pipe enough to cause this or did I get one where the pipe wasn't into the muffler enough or poorly tightened?

Just curious is all.

Jody

Never heard of this before on a stock truck, especially an 03. Sounds like someone forgot to tighten the clamps properly at the assembly line.

Excellent excuse to get an aftermarket catback now! Just don't use the Bassani clamps if you're getting their catback..

Thanks guys. I agree, perfect timing for a cat-back. Problem is I have to drive the truck now so I just shoved them back in and re-tightened the clamps. We'll see how it goes.

Just take the catback off if it is giving you troubles for now. Won't hurt anything....it'll just be loud as *****....
