Alot of Fans

Yo, anyone please! I really want the flexa lite fan but i would like to know if i use it with twin spal intercooler fans will this damage my electrical system and/or seriously drain my battery while i'm staging, due to the fact that the flexa lite draws so much juice. Thanks!

4000 CFM fan drains the battery in about 20 minutes with the engine off.
5500 CFM fan drains the battery in about 14.5 minutes with the engine off.
Intercooler fans should only run while the engine is running.

I don't know what the draw from the twin SPAL fans is, but I can't imagine that the load would be a problem. No damage will occur with that setup. And the twin fans mostly won't even be on.

Do you have a link for the twin SPAL fans?

Here's the link http://www.jaycorptech.com/shop/shopexd.asp?id=5 I thought I saw somewhere that that it was a good idea to run intercooler fans while staging to help cool the fluid. So I was think I could wire up a three position manual switch(high/low/off) in addition to the thermostat and AC switches for the flexa lite and an on/off for the intercooler fans in addition to the running with the intercooler pump.

Thats what I did

Intercooler fans should only run while the engine is running.
Would you care to explain your reasoning air1kdf
Maybe you don't understand ALOT of us have the intercooler pump wired so we can run the pump and fans without the engine running. Helps to cool down the intercooler fluid. Cooler fluid = more ponies

Post yup...

Cyntaxx I believe you are correct. I'm pretty sure Soap did have that setup in his truck. So he'd be one to ask...

Alright, just took the plunge. I ordered the flexa lite. Now I just need help wiring the thing up. I'm no wiring guru so if any of you guys could give me a simple explanation on how to get started I’d be very appreciative. I would like to have the fans come on with the temp sensor, the AC, and a three position manual switch(off/low/high). Thanks!

Sorry Gator,
Brain fart. I was thinking air to air IC. Your'e right, cool the fluid down as much as possible.

You need some relay's 40 A is preferred. Explanation of the relay is self explanatory once you get one. The AC hookup depends on how your going to connect it up. Don't forget a diode to prevent backfeed into the AC. 4N1007 works great, 4N1006 will also work.

Also, a question for you people who might know. With a setup like JDM's electric fan with a manual "on", which is a higher CFM flow, will the charging system keep up with that amount of current draw at say just idle??

air1kdf,

Thanks. Does the diode go in-line on the power side of the relay? Does anyone have a simple schematic? That would really help me out. Thanks!!

Their are 2 ways to hook up the AC. I recommend that you use the AC ground (which really isn't ground, but very low voltage) to drive the relay. The diode goes inline to the ground. I'll try and post a pic of mine. It will explain alot. Just give me a day or 2.

theperfectstorm,
Yes the alternator can keep up with the fans at idle. But the switch on JDM's unit was designed for under the hood. During a cool off before a run. Also note that the high side of all fans should run through a relay and not a switch. Switches aren't designed to handle a large load.

Thats cool air1kdf, happens to me every 20 minutes

On a side note to anyone purchasing the Span fans, DO NOT purchase their fan installation kit, its pure crap, save yourself time and money and go to your local NAPA store. I don't know if they changed vendors or not, but when I ordered mine, what they sent was..............pure crap
