Slick ?'s
Slick ?'s
I want to get a set of Slick's and don't know what to get. I know I want 16 rims so I don't have to modify calipers. I also don't want anything to pricey a steel wheel is fine. I will probablly hit the track 4 times a yr if that.
Do I really need to have traction bars also or can I run the stock setup if so those with the slapper type hows the ride any different also are they noisey..
Sorry for the long post
thanks

If your going to run slicks, then you need to run some kind of traction device. The reason is that slicks will give you a great deal of traction, and your springs will wind up, then unload. This can result in things like broken drive shafts.
JLP traction bars were my first mod, and I love mine. I also have full Roush Racing suspension, and Magnaflow exhaust. No problems with these bars (no noise either).

I just went through with the same issue.
I tried the Nitto 555r's and was disapointed. I thought not having to change rims would be worth some traction potential. They we not as sticky on the street as the F1's (they need to be real hot) and they surely were not even whai I would call decent in the rain. It may be me but they were quite a bit inconsistant.
I then went for it and got the new Hoosier 28x14.5x16 QTP (slicks with DOT rating with 3 very small grooves) and a set of Americn Racing 16x10 rims. These were the cheapest rims I could find. (they do look good though, polished aluminum). They stick great and require very little burn out. My 60 ft best times are listed below.
F1 2.02 - 2.3
Nitto 1.90 - 2.2
Hoosiers 1.80 - 1.89
As you can see the Hoosiers are very consistant and as I only ran them 3 times the 1st time out I am sure I can get them in the 1.7 range.

I forgot to add that I also got the Truk Traks. They work well, installed in 30 minutes, and make no noise at all that I have noticed. As the LJ and other bars require drilling the frame, etc. and sell for $500 the Truck Traks seemed like a much better addition to me.
28 x 10 Hoosiers on Amer Racing 16x8 rims
PSP Truck Trak Bars
No noise at all, excellent launch,
no change at all in comfort and feel of normal driving
Slicks + Bars knocked off @ 2 or 3 tenths for me
So far I've used them 6 times and got
(2) 1.6 60 ft
and
(4) 1.7 60 ft
My former F-1 run's were
(1) 2.0 60ft
(4) 1.9 60 ft
(1) 1.8 60 ft
