I have a 02, but I have seen people
deal with it as you are for a while.
As long as it's not going too low before you get to top it off,
you'll be fine.

Water does not compress so well and It should be changed as soon as possible. No way around it,It is NOT at all good for a motor. One good thing though,You probally dont have any carbon build up

I don't think there's been any discussion here of engine problems caused by a leaky IC. OTOH, get it fixed ASAP! Good luck.

Lightbulb IC Leak=engine problems?

DaytonaL99;

By all means get it fixed as soon as possible! It might only be
leaking when under boost, so don't blast it to much at WOT.
You could try the black pepper fix till I/C is replaced. Dump a can
of regular black pepper in, then drive it around to mix. If leak is
not to bad it may seal till you have it replaced. The coolant isn't
doing your O2 sensors or cats and muffler any good. You could
also drain I/C then unplug I/C pump and run dry till repair is done.
Depends how bad is it leaking on which way to go!

Actually, it probably leaks the most with the throttle closed. The high vacuum in the manifold will pull fluid out of the IC. Under boost you could actually blow air into the IC system.

Drain it and pull the fuse for the IC pump. You don't want to run coolant through the entire system. Just drive around with it deactivated, and you will be much better off

Can't you do a pressure check to see if you even have a problem??

A recall was done on the leaky intercoolers for the 99 and 00 models although I believe that the recall period has now expired. I went through two intercoolers on my 2000 L before the recall. The recall unit was then intalled and I have had no further problems. I don't think that radiator fluid running through your motor does it any good. That may be one reason that my motor is being replaced at the dealer right now. I would get that problem fixed ASAP.
