Should the next Gen Lightning include All-Wheel Drive?
Is their any interest among future lightning owners to have the next Gen Lightning include All-Wheel drive? In my opinion based on what I have seen of the concept vehicle would be the last piece to the puzzle. Obviously this should improve handling, traction and off the line performance. I think letting the FORD Corporate folks know this, would be helpful in encouraging them to add this to the next Gen Lightning. I want those engineers working on the bullet proof all wheel drive system and be confident that the overall performance won’t be overly hurt the additional weight. This would eliminate the off the line advantage that the old Sy/Ty had over the previous Gen Lightning’s.
I drive mine daily. I'd love AWD. Sorry, but nothing beats dropping the clutch at 5k (new EVO test drive
), with NO wheel spin, launching like you just got rear-ended.... WITHOUT slicks.
If they could make an AWD system that would handle the abuse, I'd take it in a heartbeat. As it is, I plan on talking with Gregg down the road to see what I can do with the Expy system I have laying in my dad's shop....
Honestly, I don't care about the lack of efficiency. It would make me feel better, when driving the truck in the rain, or snow.... Not to mention, I could probably keep a set of tires on the thing for more than 20,000 miles....

My vote as a new SVT Lightning buyer is NO! Why would I want to add cost and complexity to an already high sticker price?
If Ford is genuinely concerned about what it is I really want to buy?
Then they should build the same basic truck as now, at the same price, and fix all the habitual problems people are seeing. Instead of "breaking new ground"? How about patching the pot holed road you are standing on first?

No flame intended, but if they never "break new ground" we'd all be driving around in Model A''s wondering if we will ver be able to go 40mph.
As for the AWD, mixed emotions on this idea. It would be great to have, but it would definitely raise the cost. For those of you that think the L is expensive enough, you'll be in a shock when the Generation 3 comes out. I don't see any way that Ford will have a 500hp Lightning for less than $40,000. Start saving now guys.

MaxTorque02, No flame taken.
Do you like roads w/pot holes?
We in the OEM field have to find the dividing line between focusing on "quality" and "progress". Swinging either way too far will hurt the other. My opinion (and experience) is that quality should rank higher on the scale than should progress. But yet.. everyday around here we seem to very quickly forget what happened just in the near past. Matter of fact I've heard people talking about a project being "old" when the car has'nt even been launched yet! There is a mentality I keep seeing that I find disturbing.
I've been a part of some groups that service overseas markets. And in those markets they are much more concerned about the product name than I've ever heard about it here in the US.
For example look at the majority of the Japaneese cars made. Now look at the brand following and repeat customers they have gained. Sure some of their cars have problems. But there is a perception of them and it's based on value.
