3 # pulley and No chip ?

I put my 4 pound pulley on and drove without any chip installed.
Much stronger grunt. No pinging.

Anyone been running without a chip with a similar sized pulley for
extended period?

thanks..

Absolutely. I have been running a 4# lower with no chip for over a month now with no problems whatsoever. Had it dynoed (mainly to check the A/F) and it was a safe 12-12.5:1. Oh yeah, and 361 HP/450 TQ.

i ran my 5# puley without chip for about three weeks and it ran fine no problems, but when i got the chip back it made a sizeable diffrence, so if you have the $ i would invest in a chip, but if you dont want one you should be fine.
just my .02

I've been using a 3#'er with no chip since last year. Truck runs great!

Did you mean 3# or 4#?

I'd be a little concerned about 4#s I would also change the plugs out to NGK TR6s or Denso IT22s even though you're not hearing any pinging.....it may be on the verge and if you happen to get some questionable fuel.................

I thought a chip was basically manditors for anything above a #2 pulley??!!

What do the techno-wizards say on about this....

I've been considering a #2 JDM because it's stealthy (trying to keep the warranty police at bay) would the #4 work for me too????

I can agree with ya on that... I have a 4#er and I have no dyno results to back myself up... But i run without a chip every now and then. Ony when I have to, but lately I've been sending my chip in for reburns every other week! I think I've got it right and like elmo said, I am glad to have the chip back! you know you gota chip. And with the 3,4 or 5# pulley, thats the best set up anyone can do. Good luck man, Shane

Yes..I meant a 3 pounder...

Still have the stock plugs in this motor.

While changing the belt I pulled the blower idler pullies. They did not spin very free. there was dust packed all around the bearing seals. When clean the pullies spun 3-4 times as much. I considered pulling and cleaning further but am now satisfied.

Dan, if I recall correctly my A/F ratio with my 4# and no chip is richer than what you are running with your chip, so what would you be concerned about? I am a little concerned about my factory plugs running a little too hot so I plan on switching to some iridiums. But as far as pinging, it simply has not, even if you try to make it (i.e. put engine under high load/boost in high gear/low RPM). Also I plan on getting a 18-20' ski boat in the near future and feel confident I will not have any problems pulling it.

Badkarma: mandatory? naw.... you just have to make sure you are not running too lean. All trucks are different, and weather makes a big difference too. All I know is I my truck is running strong and safe.

I have been running a 4lb with no chip for over 2 months now. I did change plugs to TR6's, but No problems at all, even had it dynoed and air/fuel was still on the rich side.

What was your A/F? Like I have mentioned several times, mine was 12-12.5:1 up top, which is around where stock trucks run according to the info I have seen.

So in theory, if I were to run a #4 pulley without a chip, I might be okay?

I live/drive in AZ so have the summer heat to contend with. I'm at the mercy of 91 octane gas.

I was considering a #2 because of the mild enhancement, but if I could do a #4, life would be good too. I like the JDM because it looks somewhat factory (cage).
