confused and clueless

hey everybody right now i own a 1990 mustang gt..but i plan on selling and the next vehicle i plan to own is a lightning deffintly.but i wanna know some info about these beasts before i start looking seriously.

first what years did they start changing the body styles from like 93 when they were boxy to when they became more rounded?

what motors did they put in what years and horsepowers ratings for them?

as far as known problems with them are there any such as trannys breaking or rear ends or anything like that.that i should avoid?

or if anyone knows of a good website with some pictures that would be great..thanks i know a decent amount about mustangs but when it comes to almighty lightning im clueless and the closest thing i got is my dads 96 150 with a inline six in it lol im at the SVT gods mercy

Ill try to answer these best i can, should be resonably accurate

Yes lightnings are fast get one.

The rounded look lightnings are produced in years 99-03

All the the 2nd gen L's have a supercharged 5.4 L engine in them. The horse power ratings on the 01-03's i believe are 380 and the 99-00 are slightly lower (15 hp or so). I think thats correct but im sure somone will give a more accurate answer.

The big things to worry about in the truck is blowing plugs. Modded ones seem to like throwing rods but I think its rarer than people worry about, have your truck tuned properly after a mod and you should be fine.

That website is good, check it out.

Your dads i6 wont even step to a newer beast.

Good luck with the buy.

The '93 - '95 Lightnings (known as Generation 1, (Gen 1)) had a n/a 351. The '99 - '03 Gen 2 Lightnings have the supercharged 5.4L. Ford didn't make any Lightnings from ' 96- '98.

The gen 1 Lightnings run mid to low 15s stock. They are speed density. As far as handling, I have no idea. Check out www.mloc.net and goto the forums and then the gen 1 section and ask them questions and look at the trucks.
