4# pulley and chip....

Alright, I know I'll get hit by the search police, but what do you guys think....

How much HP can I expect to gain with a 4# and chip??

Am I going to put airholes in my block??

How much will it knock off of my ET's??

I'm otherwise stock, have a bassani, and will probably just put in a K&N instead of a kit, but what does everyone thing, my truck is a daily driver, I like to get to the track when I can, how safe do you guys think it is....should I go with a 2# instead??

Thanks in advance....Ed

With a good tune on the chip and a 4 pounder you could get a high 12 sec run. Remember you can get a pulley set, like 2 pounder for daily use and 4 pounder for the track.
Trucks have been fine with more boost but some have let go with less.

Good luck

I have a 4# lower and a diablo chip and I love it. Thats the only performance mods I've done to my motor really. I do have an 80mm pro m mass air, a valve body and exhaust. But thats the best performance bang out there is a chip and pulley. I ran a 12.64 with just the mods in my sig. My truck is a 2000. So i went from 13.8 to 12.6 with the pulley and chip. Good luck with what ya do. Hilander was right. Weather you go 2-4-6 pound pulley the more ya go up the more stress your putting on the motor/rods. I felt the 4#er was safe. So i'd go with a 4#er and a chip for sure. Thanks, Shane

Its all in the tune for the most part.I think a 4 lber is definatly the best bang for the buck as long as its with a safe chip..When you take into concidering longevity, heat build up,and fine tuning,The 6lber becomes risky .

In my eyes, its not the boost which blows up trucks(to a point) its the tune.Too lean.......BOOM. Too much timing BOOM

heres the problem as i see it and Ive done the same on my earlier Ls which i wont do on my 02.(Warranty problems) been there, done that.

With a good street tune and a 4 lber,Our trucks have really nice throttle response, run high 12s low 13s SAFELY.and still will last a s long as they did stock as long as we dont pound it which is even stock or not.....We are not happy cause the boy in ohio or indiana is running mid 12s on their truck with the same mods............we call our tuner of choice and want more power and more power so we can run as fast as that one freak truck. We finally do (a few times) and BOOM time for a long block. We are power greedy is what it is.As long as my truck runs pretty good and has better throttle response and shifts nicer for enthusiastic driving and will run a high 12 second pass on slicks,Im a happy camper. As far as im concerned. These trucks MAX out at around high 12s on reliabilty.I think if you start squeezing evey ounce of power out the the trucks through the computer,Your asking for trouble.

My personal opinion is that a safe chip.4 lb pully, valve body, intake is maxing out the trucks as far as power adders.Thats about the fine line.

Thank you guys for all your help.

So what do you think, what kind of chip, flip, 4 way, what?? I'm leaning toward a 4-way just so it's easier to change programs....

I've emailed Sal a couple times at powersurgeperf@aol.com but haven't gotten a response, is there a better way to reach him??

Thumbs up

I'm very very happy with my setup. See sig for mods.

BTW: consistant 12.8s - 12.9s @ 107w/stock tires.

I went back and forth on the two vs. four pound pulley, never considered higher and went with the four on the install day. I've run a 12.90, 1.86 short time on F1's, 100 degree plus day at FFW. The four seemed to be the best bang for the buck and still safe with a good tune.

Thumbs up 4# pulley and chip

Check out my signature below with all the mods done to my truck, Ive had my 4# pulley and chip on my truck for almost 10,000 miles with no problems, my truck was dyno`d before the electric fan and cabra r water pump so add about 10 hp to the horsepower numbers, not sure how much torque was added, I drive my truck every day and havn`t had any problems at all.

Larry.
