Delousing the radiators

Have mondays off and decided to putts with the baby.

With springtime comes all the bugs and cottonwood seed and whatever actively comiting suicide in the front of my L.

I started by taking off the top plastic cover and combed the condenser coil straight down with a stiff nylon brush and finished off with a wire brush from my arch welding chiping hammer(new one).
Sure was a lot of little stones from winter street sand that came right out.

Decided to try one of my Dads old tricks and took some black nylon screendoor screen and slid it down from the top so it layed flat against the fins. (layed the access over the top and down in front of the engine radiator. I think it will stay with the fan and air.

I hope it catches the bugs before they drill there way in the coil.
Don't think it will restrict air flow. Doubt it would show on the factory gauge.
Anyone else have problems with the bugs packing in and how do you deal with it?
The intercooler has traditional fins so the bruch wouldn't work. I just used compressed air to blow it out from the backside.

Was thinking of trying that mild acid condenser coil cleaner used by the AC conditioning contractors.

What do you guys do?

Back when I was in college and driving home or to my girlfriends every weekend I did the screen trick on my Ranger. I actually had room to to fit a custom made screen with a frame made. Held it in with zip ties. I would take it out every other month and hose it off. Worked really well. I thought about doing it for the L.

The "love bugs" down here in FL are known for removing paint if not washed of for a few days. I always keep fresh wax on the front of my vehicles and clean it often, especially this time of year.

From: Colorado,
Thats good to know that someone else has done it with success.

I am hoping the little critters just dry out and fall to the bottom.
It is a pain to get to the screen. But if they explode like on the paint I will prolly have to.

The interstate here follows the Colorado river so there is a pretty good supply of bugs all summer.

Wax on, Wax off
