2003 lightning or a 2001 zo6?
2003 lightning or a 2001 zo6?
Trouble on deciding what to buy a 2003 sonic blue lightning of a 2001 z06 corvette....... i like them both and just can't decide.. whats y'all's thoughts
I found the Z06 ****pit pretty cramped inside....and I'm still not sold on that particular bodystyle, but you can't beat that kind of overall performance for the price. But, didn't the early zs have some kind of engine problems?
I myself am waiting to see the new L's come out.

If you are looking for something fun and sporty to bang around in, I would buy the Z06. If you want something you can haul stuff in and still sport around, I would buy the Lightning. If you are looking for something to drag race, I would buy the Lightning because it's different and easy to mod. Lastly, if you are autocrossing I would buy the Z06. Just my .02 cents.

Are you sure the Z06 was racing? Stock for stock the Z06 would beat a Lightning up and down the track unless the Z driver was a complete idiot.
I'm assuming right now you're contemplating this because the price is similar.
How many miles on the Z06? Color? Condition? Price difference if any? How old are you? Insurance won't be cheap if you're a young'n like me....
If you want a speed toy, just get the Z06. It's an excellent performance vehicle and can out-handle, out-accelerate, and out-speed the Lightning any day. However, if this will be a daily driver and you need something a bit more practical, get the L. You'll have more ground clearance, a bed to haul stuff, and I would slap winter tires on a Lightning before I would a Z06 if you plan on driving it in the winter.

If you do get the Z06, try to get a 2002 model. Like mentioned above, the 2001 Z06's had an oil burning problem which can be taken care of under warranty, but why buy an 01 knowing they have a problem, when you can go for the 02 model? If you can find a nice 2002 and swing the deal, thats what Id do if you decide on the Z. Good luck either way and let us know what you decide. Mike
Hey, let's give him a chance to respond and not just turn this into another pissfest. I know latemodelracer2 isn't the type of person to just post ridiculous kills or anything, so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt that he did win.

As for what vehicle to get ,its all up to you. Some like the truck and some like the coupe. Do what I did ,get one of each.
Like i said i beat him but he couldnt drive either. He was shifting realy badly. My truck was a month old and in 30 degree december weather. It hooked and he would gain a little but then it would be time to shift and i would pull him a little at each shift. A win is a win knowmatter what happens to get you there.

That is a chevy motor out of one of race cars. It has about 380 hp with a 2 barrel 350cfm carb but thats what everybody has to run. It was on its way to get dry sumped in the picture.
