High-mileage oil?

Is it worth it?

http://www.quakerstate.com/pages/pro...hermileage.asp

Or should I continue using Mobil 1 5w-30?

Have 85K miles now.

Every 1000 miles

You actually think that sort of drain interval is going to prevent anything? Unless you have a serious problem with your motor, you are wasting good oil.

Well I guess it also depends how fast one racks the miles up. Could be 1000K in 3 months or 1000K in a week. All depends I guess. For me it is about 12 days for 1000 miles.

I figure what the heck. Regular oil costs about a third the price of mobil 1 and I drive the Lightning pretty hard. I also don't have a pcv system so more contaminants are in my oil than may be present in your oil.
I still use Mobil 1 in my ranger and excursion.

Interesting.

Is the Castrol synthetic or just conventional?

Just the regular stuff. I think it is $6 for a 5 quart container at Walmart. I could care less if it doesn't flow that great anyway because I have never driven my truck in the months of October, November, December, January, February, or March.
Besides I have an accusump to help lubricate the engine before startup.

Oh ok. Yea I drive mines everyday of the year and in every condition. I guess I will stick with synthetic.

I might eventually try the high-mileage stuff.

What is this "accusump" you speak of?

Not a flame at all Easter, but what made you change from full synth to the conventional oil? I didn't think it would be price, especially with your list of goodies on the truck, so I was just curious...

I don't think I'm convinced that synthetic will help my engine. I mean, I don't think this engine will last me until the fall before I break something. I can get out lots of the contaminents which the pcv system would have removed if it had been in place by an oil change. I think every 1K miles or so is good. Especially since it gets driven hard and fast pretty much all of the time.

accusump is an oil accumulator which can be used to pre lube an engine before startup or if the oil pickup was not able to pick up enough oil under hard acceration or cornering it would pump oil to the engine. It just sits in a little pump ready to work until you need it.
