If bought in bulk it goes down in price.

I pay about 5 bucks a gallon for 5 one gallon cans at a time.

Check with your tuner....on effect.

i know its expensive to buy in cans, but if you buy it in bulk its cheaper. also toulene has an octane rating of 114, xylene has a rating of 117. so it might be more worth your money to buy xylene

Look in the phone book under Solvents and see who is a chemical distributor in your area. We are a distribuor of solvents and the going price is about $1.50 a gallon by the rail car. Typically a drum goes for around $3.00/gallon. Tell me what area you are in, and I can probably find a distributor for you. If you would like a rail car (28,000 gallons), then let me know. I can hook you up.

I just researched this in the Sacramento area and from chemical distributors in this area it's $10/gallon for xylene and $13/gallon for toulene in five gallon cans. Not even remotely worth it.

I'd love to find a source at $3. per gallon in a 55 gallon drum. Of course in California, every time you buy it they take your i.d. and enter it into the computer, just like buying automotive paint. Buy enough and you will get a visit from the EPA or ARB.

Anybody in California getting a deal I would appreciate hearing about it.

What do you think the EPA would think if you had 28,000 gallons delivered? LOL

It's nothing to panick over. Distributors are required to list anybody who purchases certain chemicals. We have customers who buy over 10,000 gallons a year that never get visited by the EPA. Now if an individual buys that much and isn't running a business that requires these chemicals, then I would be a little suspicious also. I just looked in my price book and our Toluene lists out at $4.35/gallon in the drum and $6.35/gallon in a 5 gallon can. If you negotiate properly with a distributor, you can probably get it for about $3.50/gallon or even less in a drum. You might want to try Ramos Oil Co. in Sacramento. I'm located in the Northwest if you ever come up this way. I'll be glad to sell you some.

I get mine for about 4.50 a gallon ... a 50/50 mix
with 93 Octane will yield about 103 octane ...

One reason for scrutiny is I heard that Toluene is
used to cut cocaine or Meth ...

Thanks, I appreciate the info. I wasn't panicking, I paint my own cars and have been through this before. But I would be using a lot more toluene than paint! I'll check with Ramos and others on a drum price and see what I can find. I've got a feeling though that being in California is affecting the price.
