Hemi... a bit slow....
Hemi... a bit slow....
I'm not trying to stir up anything but I've been doing a little research on these new 'hemi' engines by dodge and have found they average on the dyno 250-260rwhp. Now it they are making 345hp at the crank that's a 27% loss through the drivetrain!!! But I highly doubt their hp rating. Anyway, the following is a link to some specs, yes it is a 2500 however I don't really see a 1500 running considerably faster, maybe take off a second or so and that still leaves you in the 15's....think I'm gonna go drive one this weekend just for s**** and giggles. This thread has no real point just stating my observation.....

They wont be posing any problems, especially when they cant even get out of their driveway!

STRUCKINAZ sent me this link because he knew i'd get a kick out of it. Here's the story: I went to watch a buddy race his Lightning and took my daily driver there to race just for fun. It's a 1999 F150 extra cab 4x2 with a Leer cap on it. I ended up running a 2003 Dodge 5.7 Hemi regular cab, short box, 4x4. He was expecting to run upper 15's. I was expecting to run mid 17's. We ran twice. One of the runs, i hit 16.5 @ 83 to his 16.3 @ 84. The other run was similar for me although i think he ran a 16.2 @ 84. Funny thing was that i pulled him both times well past the 1/8 mile. Then he'd catch up right at the end. One of the runs i pulled a good light and actually crossed the finish line before him although his time was better overall.
I know trucks like mine put down about 190hp to the wheels, so if the Dodge is really putting down 250-260, then i'm not sure what the issue is?
Maybe they're WAY heavier? No torque? Only top end HP? Poor gearing? I really don't know, just thought i'd tell the story...

ya here's something interesting I found on their websit, one of the guys sig's reads as follows....
2003 1500 Laramie Quad Cab HEMI 264 RWHP 314 RWTQ 3/29/03
Apparently they are dynoing close to what I thought. However hp alone is not what get's you down the track the fastest, it's the rest of the vehicle and how it handles that power. I guess dodge has a pretty week drivetrain and suspension setup if he's dynoing about 70hp more than you and your hanging neck and neck. Oh well no matter cause ford's still rock

I have seen two dyno's for the F150 5.4, both in the 190HP range (one of them was 192 to be exact). Although i've never felt like spending the money to dyno mine. It's far from being even remotely fast/quick. I mean, come on, mid 16's? Good to know the Dodge isn't any or much quicker though! But watch out, once they start throwing on the mod's, they might be looking at a stock Civic tying upper 15 in the quarter!!
Oh, i did beat a Hyundai GS350 the other day!
I also beat a Civic LX (what are they, 98 hp?). The guy then beat me by rolling up to the next light and punching it from about 10mph and blowing the light as it turned red. He started out about 3 cars ahead and when he decided to turn he was still about one car ahead. He waved, giving me the sign that i've just been beat. Gotta love it!
