Quick question, are you heating up your regular radials? If you are, that can add to your traction problems as well. With regular radials[not DR's], heating them up can actually cause your tires to lose traction. A brief cleaning spin is okay, but heating them up will lose you 60ft's.

Drive AROUND the water, "bunny hop" a few burnouts til
you feel them grip, roll to the tree, and roll into the throttle
at about 1000-1100 rpm ...

The above resulted in 13.51 for a BONE STOCK '02

Those runs sound about right, but maybe a little slow if you have a 2001+.

My stock 2000 w/exhaust & CAI runs 13.8-14.1 with 60s of 2.0-2.2...

That is with 3.5ish gearing (my tires are .4" shorter then stock), Pirelli street rubber, ROUSH suspension lowering, QA1 shocks, and a wet weight of ~5050 with driver.

Ya Milan is dangerously slippery.

Point in case.........

At last springs track rental a Camaro SS spun completely around and was pointing back at the tree at around the 330' mark.........luckily the L he raced was long gone

Well, it bums me to see that the new Milan isn't any better than the old. Joe, you are right, the drive to Stanton is worth it. Norwalk also.

When my truck was mostly stock, I turned a best of 13.5@102 at Milan. That was with a 2.0 60ft. So you're right around what you should be running. The head wind last night would kill it some also.

I remember the SS spinning. I was sitting in the stands when it happened. I don't believe he made anymore runs after that. (I know I wouldn't).

This track was equal to Norwalk after 1 month of rubber on its entirely brand new suface last season...no doubt even better this year after the seasoning. www.us131mortorsportspark.com/

This track might be the best track in the midwest and is the oldest track in Michigan. www.midmichmotorplex.com

For Milan, your times aren't bad at all, even with stock rubber imho.

I saw an 02 run 13.37 last year at Stanton bone stock with an average driver who does not frequent drag strips regularly.

I agree the Tires may be hurting you,
but I disagree about the burnout.

I raced last yr the whole season with Stock F-1's
I got 1.8 and 1.9 all day out of them. The differance is I would smoke the living schitt out of them, they were liquid when I was done with them, they would take full WOT with no spinning for me each and every time. The absolute worse 60 I ever ever had on them was a 2.0. The trick is to flash the torque convertor.
You must WOT it ""ALL AT ONCE""
After a nice burnout you stage and put your foot on the brake
DO NOT TOUCH THE GAS PEDDLE
When the light turns green, you lift your foot off the brake, and WOT THAT SUCKER HARD AND QUICK

This Flashes the Convertor and should net you a nice 1.9-2.0 60ft

Now I use Slicks
First time out got me Back to Back 1.6 60ft times

i also disagree with the "dont heat up radial tires" i read that in the new MM&FF mag also and so i didn't really...

at first i heated them up just for a quick cleaning best 60ft was 2.3....

then i didn't just went around the water and best was 2.2 once a 2.1...

then i heated the **** out of them until i felt them grip... best of 2.0....

so i dont agree w/ that statement either..

I am not saying your wrong but to do this at Milan, could be a life threatning experience.....even with slicks

It's cool guys, just speaking from my own experience.. I've noticed in the past, that heating up regular tires breaks down the compounds in the rubber, putting a greasy film on the tire surface.. Some of my worst 60ft times were from doing this, and improved dramatically when they were simply cleaned off..

Go with what works for you.

That's the best advice anyone can use. Not every track is the same. I too found that at Milan, if I did a nice burnout on my F1's, I would get a better 60'. I would've thought different, but I'm not the only one who's found this to work at that track.

I think too many people don't experiment or make changes when they go to the track. How do you know if something will or won't work if you don't try it.

yeah, you hit the nail on the head bob, thats what was nice when i went, there were only like 15-20 cars running, so alot of times at the end of the night you weren't even running next to someone, so you could change up your launch and stuff.

I found that heating my tires in Manual 1 contrary to popular belief works pretty well. Instead of fully melting my tires, it seems that I am heating and picking up some of the rubber left in front of the water box. At least that's what it looks like. The time I did this I was pulling 1.96 60's in 39 degrees. My f1's were at 25lbs. Even after coming back the return lane my tires felt tacky. It was weird, like there was extra rubber there or something. But it really worked well for me. I am going to the track tonight, and I'll be trying the same thing.
