Gear problem!!!

Well here is the story guys. I bought some gears from a guy that came out of his lightning for $100. They looked great, like brand new, so I got them. He said them were 4:10’s. Well I didn’t count the teeth. Well when I got around to counting them I realized they were 4:56’s. Well now I don’t know what to do, should I put them in or sell them and get some 4:10’s? I know the 56’s will eat gas worse but will they have any bad affects on my truck? I just don’t know what to do?!?!?

4.56's are way too low of a gear for a Gen 2. However, I would say that 4.56 gears for a 9 3/4 shouldn't be to common so are you sure that you have 4.56's? My Precision Gear 4.10's has 4.10 stamped on the ring gear. Did you check for any markings?

If your truck is adaily driver I wouldn't suggest a 4.56.

I think the question you should ask yourself is how often do you I drive on the highway because with that low a gear the truck is going to be screaming on the highway, I think the 3.73 are about the perfect gear for a street strip combo, maybe 4.10's but theres no way I would recommend that gear. Good luck, Todd

jim @ jdm posted a few days agao saying that he instaled 4.10's and they made him slower, so 4.56 would not be a good descision
i belive jim said that the 3.73 worked the best

No i didn't see the markings, but i will look again! They are US Gear Torq-line's. This is the part of the site that led me to believe they are 4:56'shere . The chart on the page that is for 9.75" gives the teeth counts for both the ring and pinion and the ratio beside the # i counted says, 4:56.

I hope I have miss counted or something but i don't think so!

You might be able to sell that set to a 4X4 running some large tires.
