Service Engine Soon light came on...

3,500 miles and the light came on last night. Any ideas? I haven't noticed anything unusual about the way the truck is running.

Is it stock or did you put some mods on>??? If it is stock give it to Ford and drive around in a cute little Sable while they fix it. If it is modded what are your mods>??? Try and get it scanned so we know what the codes are. -Mat-

It means you have to change your oil and get a bedrug already.

Take it to autozone and they'll pull the code for free. Don't take it in just yet, most South Florida dealer service monkeys have unpredictable behavior patterns. I wish Superfords or Probleminfected worked at a dealer here

Join the club Vinnie. My SES light came on, thought I fixed it for a couple days, and came back on again. I just haven't had the time to take the truck in!

Vinnie, don't panic just yet. The emission diagnostics on new
vehicles, including the Lightning, has progressed to the point
that the car itself monitors the emissions constantly. Here in
North Carolina they don't even sample the emissions during an inspection any longer. They simply plug into your diagnostic port and scan for error codes. There is a good chance that your oxygen sensor simply saw a temporary high level of carbon
monoxide or nitrous oxide. An oil change or a new tank of
gas may just solve the problem. Take a look at your owner's
manual. My '99 s owners manual talks about this situation.

I think the reasoning behind it is the condition of the vapors that
are bled off the crankcase by the PVC system. The older the oil
the more contaminates and ash are in it. To tell you the
truth I think your oil would have to be awfully old for it to make
a difference and if you are running synthetic I don't think it
would ever make a difference.

just what i figured, youd have to have that oil in there a long long time for that. Especially these days.

In anycase, at 3500 miles you should have had two changes at least already so i wouldnt think that should be a problem. Get the code scanned. For all you know you didnt tighten the gas cap down.

Have you tried disconnecting your battery to reset it?

If it still does, get it scanned at Autozone and post it up here. Maybe someone will be able to tell you something more...

ses light

Check your gas cap also, removing cap while engine is running or operating vehicle with cap loose will throw a code. ( EVAP system is pressure sensitive) .. a thought. Jon

Had it checked out today. As it turns out, the EGR sensor on the exhaust was bad. They replaced it in 20 minutes and I was on my way. No big deal...
