Problem with tranny????
First let me say that Greggs boxes are assembled with the very best parts available for the 4R100. I am not a vendor thats sells his stuff I am just a transmission guy that knows what it takes to make these units live and am offering an opinion. First of all The 4R100 is a computer controlled unit and trying to guess what is wrong with it is impossible. I dont know if Gregg sells his units with the MLPS attached or not, but if it is installed by the person installing the unit in the truck it has to be properly adjusted or you will have problems. Also you have to make sure you dont bend any pins over on the connector that plugs into the solonoid pack or that could cause problems as well. Your problem can only be in two different areas, electrical or mechanical. Therfore in order to diagnose it you must do as I originally posted and hook up a scan tool and a pressure gauge to find out for certain what is going on.
Thanks Transhop for the support. I'm pondering this problem myself, I talked to Justin today and we're gonna get it worked out. A note on this tranny, it was sold on E-bay, not the normal way, and was the old design after I had started the new one, I sold it cheap and all monster Boxes are sold "as-is" but I'll make sure it gets fixed, even if I have to build it again.
On the how many question, I built 72 Monster Boxes last year, and 44 standard rebuilds, I had 6 Monster Boxes with problems that were my fault, 3 that were installed improperly and broke the pump gear because the converter was not seated and 1 that had the wiring harness installed backwards (TSS cable to OSS and vice verse), one of the standard rebuilds blew a snap ring @ 1600 miles. I knew these numbers were high, and that's why I started dyno checking all of them before they're shipped, I expect the numbers for this year will be much lower, I fixed all of the units that had problems, the most common failure was leaking clutches, a thing you check with 90psi air, which reacts differently than 150psi hot fluid, so that alone should be corrected by having them dyno'd. I also had one blown intermediate sprag in the 6, I switched to a better design, and one that had a contaminated valve body, causing a burned up reverse clutch which I replaced, also one of the 6. A Monster Box is not exaclty exprimental, but it does represent the cutting edge of what you can do with the 4R100, so I expect a few problems, I'd like to get it down to 1 in 50, which is better than OEM makers get on what's known in the business as FTT, or First Time Through, I'd be surprised if many aftermarket builders get better than that, especially on a performance transmission.
We're working to make it better, and on the odd one that does have a problem, I'll fix it, my name is on every one, and aside from being good business, that just means a lot to me.
Thanks,
G

And let me tell you, it was a major decision to post those numbers, but that's what it is, as much as it hurt to "out" it, but I felt like you deserved to know before you dropped a big roll to get one.

First let me say...THIS FORUM IS WAYYYYYYY TO MELODRAMATIC.
Gosh darned it. I asked a simple question that could be answered by anyone with a monster box. Does your tranny delay going into first. The answer should be NO.
Greg called me Friday and he is sending me a controller to get it perfect.
As far as Gregs customer service...It is the tops as far as I am concerned. This is not the first time I have done business with Greg. I bought a valve body from him for my stock tranny and It worked great also.
Thanks Greg,
Rocks

Yeah rocks, I agree, but someone raised a question about the box, and I wanted to first defend them, I take them all presonally, and I really think I needed to explain what might happen. I don't officially warranty them, but I do do whatever I can to make sure you're happy with it. The tranny is the most complex major assembly in the truck and things happen, even with a stock one, but a built one has some things about it you should consider. I will make it right, but last year 1 time in twelve in involved trying again.
