Question Lightning gas mileage

Hi,
Brand new owner of a 2003 lightning in Sonic Blue. I love the truck! I know this may have been hashed over before, but I want to help the gas mileage a bit. I realize this is a high perf. truck, but for daily cruising, a little economy would help also. Can anyone give me any constructive ideas on improving the mileage. Obviously removing the engine or supercharger is not what I had in mind. I also want any mods that won't void the warranty. So far I am putting in a K&N air filter and installing a tonneau cover. Thanks for the help!

Well an electric fan is about the only mod you can do to notice a substantial difference.

Mods that won't void warranty: Thats a toughy. If you look at it wrong some places will void it.

To get better gas mileage: It's a hot rod truck. Get an older Chevy Luv to save gas on.

Just got my 03 Sonic Blue home from Arizona. Averaged about 15 mpg at 75-80 mph. Don't know that it's going to get much better than 16 or so no matter what.

From: Colorado,
seriously: you could easily go with a 2 inch taller tire on the rear like a 285/60 R18 Scorpion Zero.

It is a good looking tire and gives it that slightly raked look.
Cheaper and quiker than changeing R&P.

My 99 has 3:55 and I can get 17 1/2 with standard tire on highway and 15 in town.

That takes some self control. No fun son!

Then there is the lightweight synthetic oil in engine and drivetrain.
After market air filter system.

Not sure how changing to a taller tire will help gas mileage, and I cant guess how long it would take to pay off the tires with the .2 of an MPG you would save. The lightning is JUST like any other gasoline vehicle if you drive it hard it will get poor gas mileage..

I hear that less burnouts help. I have yet to meet anyone on here willing to test this theory.

I dont have a L ,but my Harley truck is really close. Its mileage is pretty bad compared to my Trans Am(which is heavily modded) let alone the daily beaten Infinit G20(got to love that 2.0 4 banger mileage! ). I get about 12-14mpg around town and 18mpg on the freeway in the truck.
