Nitto 555 Vs F1

I need to replace a couple tires. I have really liked the F1's in the past, but am considering the 555's. (not the R's)

For people that have had both...how do they compare. Which lasts longer? Which is better in the dry, in the wet, and for launching on the strip? Does the 555 still maintain the tow rating?

I'm looking for some substance responses, a lot of what I have read bases opinions on appearance, and frankly...these are tires people. They are on the ground and under the car where you can't see them.

Dollar for Dollar, which is the better way to go?

Personally............

Personally I DESPISE Nittos. I have a set on the rear of my truck that I bought slightly used. I tried to run them at the track this weekend, and no matter what I tried I lost from between 1 to 2.5 seconds off my ET, and could do no better than a 2.3 60 foot times.
Therefore, anyone interested in a set of Nitto extreme drags should contact me here or at mcarpen4@ford.com. They gotta go.

Just my opinion. But I am sticking to it.

Don't get me wrong here. I personally don't like them. I know several here who have them and love them.

So consensus is that those who had experience with both would go with the F1's?

I prefer the nitto 555 streets vs. the f1's. Cut my 60ft from 2's to low to mid 1.8s.

I have had the F1's and the Nitto 555R's on the back of my truck. I love the R's. Cut 1.7x 60' with them. I'm not sure what is up with all the nitto haters on this thread. I haven't tried the 555 street tire so I can't comment on that one. The R drag radial works great on my daily driver though.

Well, I appear to be the only Nitto Extreme Drag hater here so let me explain myself a little.
Personally, and I say personally, I do not like them. I installed a set on my Lightning and have driven maybe 300 miles on them, including twice to the track this past weekend for test and tune
and from my experiences they are not what I "expected".
My 60 foot times $uck, they break loose and set my truck sideways on a WOT upshift from 1st to 2nd, and this is on a mildly preped track. ( this was at 22#of air)
On the street I can not get them to bite. In a comparison between them and the F1's I removed to install them, I can smoke them a good 25 to 30 feet further than the F1"s. I have twice had the *** end come around to meet me under light acceleration going around a corner, or onto the freeway ramp.
Therefore I am replacing them with stock F1"s.
There are many here, and in other places I frequent that love them and that is fine, I respect that. The reason I even tried them is do to the fact that I get tired of changing tires at the track and that late last year I ran another Lightning from these boards that had a set on and he 60 footed me by .02 of a second and it took everything my truck had to catch him.

I dunno why everyone brings up the 555R's when someone asks about the 555's. I like my 555's better than the F1's not to mention they were a bit cheaper as well. I know a tires looks aren't as important as its performance but the 555's look a lot better than the F1's as well. And when someone complains about the 555R's its almost always because your not using them right.

Your not using them right???

You are probably right, I will mount them on the front and give them another try.

I have 555's on the front wheels. They do okay. Probably no different than any other front tire.

with nitto 555 255/45/18 on the front

Nitto Drag Radials at 16-18# of air, smoked for 5-7 seconds, and you will be surprised at how much better they are.

2.3 60's are not the fault of the tires, they are the fault of the driver.

i think the issue is that Marc's truck makes too much power for these tires... could that be possible? at the end of last year, i cut a 1.85 60' on my F1's. they were at 32 psi, and the track (Norwalk) was fairly sticky. in my mind, the reason i cut such a good 60' time was weight transfer... when i installed my lowering springs on the front of the old truck, i screwed up a shock and was forced to run out and buy regular shocks - VERY soft. the truck launched hard from then on because the front was so bouncy.... my own drag package. granted, my truck was not modified much, but i still turned a 12.98 w/ a 1.85 60'.
personally, i prefer the F1's over any tire out there. they work perfect in all conditions including snow/ice.

Hey Phil, whats up?
Wish you could have been there Sunday. I was going to suggest that you put my Nittos on your truck and give them a try.
As I previously stated, I went back to the Hoosiers and had much better luck.
I am going to Pittsburgh with a group from that SVT Chapter this Sunday for a Dyno Day. We will see how much power this thing is making then. The latest chip Mike sent me is incredible!!
When are you going to make it to the track?

Marc
