Unhappy ford screwed my truck!!!!!

i took my stock LIGHTNING to my SVT dealer to get Densos IT16 put in. i get the truck back and the truck drives like ****, so i take it back to them they put it on the computer and it tells them that everything is fine. so i go in to the dealer pick up my keys and take the mechanic for a test drive, sure enough the truck runs like **** on hard accelaration. (the mechanic tells me that that he didn't drive it this hard when he test drove it and that i shouldn't drive that hard all the time, i told him that i bought a LIGHTNING to enjoy not just to look at) any ways we get back to the shop he takes plug #5 out and its out of gap, then he takes plug #1 and the irudium electrod is not there. Now what do i do? should make him pull all 8 plugs out and see whats up? did he forget to gap them? did he brake the electrod? wtf? what do you guys think? and what gap should it be set at?

The dealer screwed it up, not Ford.

Go to another dealer. You got a big wrong answer from the mechanic. Also, get everyone of those plugs back out of the engine, look them over, throw them away and go find a competent mechanic.

That is at least a nickles worth!

I think the problem is that you must use a special tool to gap those plugs. If you use a normal gap toll you can or will damage the electrode.

I would put the stock plugs back in. I have seen a lot of stock plugs run on pulleys, chips up to 80K miles they still have electrodes and ran well. If your truck is stock and under 50K miles I would not hassle with it. IMO

Sounds like the person installing your plugs has no ****ing clue what they're doing, GET YOUR L OUT OF THERE

Don is right,
It takes great time and patience to gap Denso IT's correctly
I spent probably an hour gapping mine, WITH THE CORRECT TOOL
ok I'm ****,
but I always play it safe
While doing destructive things of course

In the cases of vehicle modifications (nitrous, turbo-chargers, super-chargers, high power ignition systems, etc.), some adjustments may be desired. Or, if you prefer to remain consistent with factory specifications, you may adjust. However, please be careful not to place any stress on the fine center electrode during adjustment. You could accidentally break off the very hard, and therefore brittle, tip.
IT22 are Factory set @ .044
END OF QUOTE

.044 is too big for us

Some gap as small as .035
I find .038 - .040 just perfect

Denso's work great. Check the gaps yourself. Install yourself.

As far as the dealer, get your truck now. Make them pay for the Denso's that they ruined (whole set).

I am 42 years old and have changed at least 500 plugs in my life. I have yet to ever see a set of plugs all gaped to the proper spec for my application.

ALL PLUGS, NO MATTER BRAND OR IF YOUR FRIGGING FAVORITE TUNER SOLD THEM TO YOU, SHOULD AT THE LEAST BE CHECKED FOR GAPS.

When on earth are amatuer mechanics going to quit with the B.S. pre-gapped plug rumors.

If you choose to believe this RUMOR, go ahead...stuff them things in the darned motor. Heck, they just ole spark plugs anyway, what's it matter...GEEZE.

Well at least you checked them...LOL. The part about getting them from Terry didn't hurt either. But i know what mods you have and I also know that SOMEONE gapped those Densos for you.

Now when one of these young bucks buys a set of IT22's gapped at .044, throws them in the truck and then comes on the forum crying about his engine missing...are you going to drive out to their place and pull them and gap them to the PROPER SPECS FOR THE APPLICATION for them?
