Shorty headers...comments and any for sale out there?

I live in SE Wisconsin where they are really strict about emissions... so I am interested in the shorties for ease of install and still retain cat pipes. I assume they make better hp then stock but not as much as long tubes? Is that why long tubes are more popular? Also, I have tried sending messages to people on the classifieds who are selling and getting no response. Anyone out there with some shorties that they want to part with? Thanks

I have seen before and after dynos in person with the bassani's and got 0 HP gain and only a couple of ft. lbs torque.

Not worth shorties IMO.

Razors Edge just got in thier shipment of Dynatech complete exhaust systems and for ease of install... well they go in in about 3 hrs.

will a heavily modded truck you'll pick up some power with the shorties, but not much at all to make it worth the money or the pain in the A$$ of the install. You would be much better off with long tubes for power gains.

If you truck is lightly modded I wouldn't worry about exhuast unless your want more sound from your truck and at that point try the cat backs first and then go for long tubes.

Shorties do nothing for modular engines unfortunately.

Its my understanding that the exhaust ports are pretty restrictive. You MAY see gains with P&P heads, but for $$ difference between shorties and long tubes, go with the long tubes.

I just bought the Bassani shorty's and they are going to be installed this weekend. I will be running heavy mods and will be posting my dyno sheets next week after tuning. I do not have befor dyno sheets to compare them with though.

I got gains from the Bassani headers. REM posted a dyno with just the Bassani's added and gained roughly 20 ft-lbs. Maybe it depends on the truck I don't know. I just know what I see personally and would never say a part would give the same results to all trucks regardless of mods. Most people will swear that there is no power gain from cut-outs either. My timeslips beg to differ.

I love my Bassani shorties. My seat-of-the-pants dyno shows impressive higher rpm gains. This is not hard to believe when you compare the size of the stock manifolds with the shorties.

I installed the cat backs a week ahead of the headers. No noticable gain there, just great sound.

I will have it on the dyno again 4/19, & on the 1320 4/25, so we'll see if there are any real gains on my truck.

My truck was modded and I swear could feel the diffrence when the shorty's were on. But I wil have a set of bassani shorty's for sell really cheap, going with the long tubes from REM.

I have around 4k miles on my bassani coated shorties, with my bassani full exhaust. Im going to be going with something more radical motor wise and am deceiding whether to get L/Ts or not to replace my shorties and getting an exhaust shop to run them to my bassani midpipes. I think im going to go catless even though everyone says you lose torque. I did notice a SOTP improvement with the exhaust.

The bassanis still look awesome, shoot me a price on what you would give for em. jon1@midamer.net

Thanks for all the replies! I can't go LT... sound is probably too loud for the police around these parts (and I don't want to get the girlfriend mad either!). Biggest reason though is keeping stock cats to keep emmissions down... in SE Wisconsin we have almost as tough emmissions standards as California! Also I want to be able to change back to stock manifolds easily if I ever sell the truck. I have to say, one of the board members here contacted me right away with a great deal on some shorty Bassani's... payed him this morning. I am a happy camper!

I've read about both sides of these on the boards for some time. I have a set of JBA ceramic coated shorties. I've got most of normal bolt ons on mine and I can say that I picked up a few horses when I put the headers on. I will tell you also that they are some of the most expensive ponies ($'s/HP) you will add when it comes to aftermarket mods. I'm happy with mine and would do it again. What more can I say?
