22" Rubber....what brand/size?

My buddy's got a 01 F150 with a set of Niche rims and P275/45/R20 tires (same as HD tires) and is selling his rims for 22's.

He wanted to know which size tire would be best for 22's, preferably same OD as the 275/45's

And which brand tires....links would help.
and his truck is strictly a show truck, never races it, so he doesn't need a set of 500 bucks a tire racing tires

thanks for any info

I run 305/40/22''s with no rubbing on a 10 inch wheel on my lightning. They are Toyo's. I hope this helps.

Both Nitto and Michelin make a 285/35-22.

The Nitto 555 is performance oriented and the Michelin Diamaris is labeled a "sport truck" tire.

The 275/45-20 is 29.8" in diameter.
The Nitto 285/35-22 is 29.9" dia.
The Michelin 285/35-22 is 30.2" dia.........not enough to throw off the speedo.

Tell him to go to www.tirerack.com .

Tirerack has them both for around $300 a piece.

Hope this helps,
Jason

Agreed it looks like the 285/35/22 is close to the same diameter, 29.7 (20’s) vs. 29.9…

http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

The Michelins were 366 (no ship @ the Rack)
The 555 Nitto’s were 345 (free ship @ Discount Tire Direct)

Harley, if he isn’t worried about wheel weight and a taller size he could do a Nitto 404 305/40R-22 (like kxdoa Toyo’s) and go a bit lower than the 300 mark (289 free ship @ Discount Tire) but the diameter of this tire is 31.6. I’ve recently seen these tires on 22’s (stock F150 xlt) and they look great but like mecca said 22-inch tires are going to be expensive, good luck…

The 305/40/s are waaaaay too big for his truck. He's lowered 3/5 and i don't think they'll fit under his fenderwells

Wonder why it is you can pick up 20" rubber for 130 bucks a pop but the 22's are almost triple

thats because no cars/trucks are coming stock with 22" rubber. when cars/trucks start coming with larger wheels the tire manufactorers are able to lower their prices because the market for them grows....until then it costs them more per tire to make so it costs you more per tire to buy. Remember how much 20" rubber cost before the Harley Trucks came out and now since the Dodges come with optional 20's the prices have come down even more.

Actually, when the 00HD's 1st came out, Goodyear P275/45/R20's were 126 a tire, now they are up to 134 a tire last time i checked go figure
