WHAT

"no replacement for displacement"

Yes there is, Its called, Turbo, Supercharger and NItrous.

Need proof:
1.8L Honda 500hp.
And do you really think you need a ton of torque in a light light car making that much power?

I wonder what the power difference is between two engines with the same mods with the independant variable being the net sum volume of all the cyliners. I.E. stock 5.4 liter vs. a bored and stroked motor.

I assume its not as cost effective as a kb or works unit?

Then again, when it gets down to it, you want everything you can get your hands on.

Rough math says it is just over a horsepower per cubic inch. $3k for an extra 24 hp. = no thanks

A little birdie told me that someone on this board is now in the process of building an '03 crate motor with Sal's stroker kit and a Works 140. I ain't saying who, though. Maybe the first 9 second gen. 2?

We @ JLP offer the same stroker kit from pro- power. we currently have 2 stroker engines....we calculated the HP gains to be around 50 hp with the KB unit.. But the torque should be unbelievable.. we plan on running 26# of boost with *Prototype* 2v heads and Cams plus a new upper plenum with a weight under 4,000 # with the driver...We are going to try to hit the 9's ourselves without NO2..But if we don't make it. we will Run NO2 this year! last year we didn't run NO2 to prove the potential of the KB..That was last year..This year is going to be a total different story............JL

Can you tell me a little more about the engine with 3.700 bores ?

Is it a sleeved standard 5.4L block ?

By the way, NICE stuff !!

Started life as a 99 Nav 5.4.
Wanted to get a more square engine to take advantage of the 4v breathing, but could only get to 3.7. Could go bigger with more stroke, but decieded against it. The block is nikasel sleaved. Supposed to be the same sleaves as John Force's FC. Billet rods, mains. CNC'ed heads flowing 315 intake/ 265 exhaust. The valve train has been a problem. Cannot buy the Cobra R springs and the cam profile in this engine MAY have problems in the upper reaches of the rev range. We'll see after it gets running on an engine dyno.
A vendor here will have a whipplecharged 5.8L 32v stroker soon

With a bigger blower do you really need a stroker kit, as long as your motor is strong enough to handle the big 25 to 30 PSI the new blowers are going to put out your not really going to need much more.

Look at the 306 mustangs putting big blowers on there cars and running 8's all day long. Sal's having no trouble running low 10's with his and that would be alright with me. I personally would waste my time trying to stroke out the motor more, just rev it up higher!

Look at it this way Killa....If your engine is making 2hp per cubic inch now and you bump it up 30 cubes ..... you do the math....every little bit helps.

I like the big bore deal cause it gives the cylinder heads more room to breath. When you get the bore wall away from the valves it is a win/win deal. You gain power from the cubes and extra breathing potential.

I like the big bore deal, and the stroker deal, and the '03 block deal, and a few other deals, but my better half says "No deal".

Could someone explain 'stroker' to me. Overbore I understand, and that sounds like what this is about, but I hear other stuff.

The piston speed on the 5.4 is mind boggling stock, so I don't know how much more stroking a daily driver can take, but a KB or Works with a over bore would produce more than enough power for most folks.
