I just noticed something about the sound of my 2003 L engine. I have heard this sound under other hoods before, but I don't know if it's normal. Around the spark plugs, I hear a noticeable, high-pitched tapping sound. Now, it doesn't sound like gas blowing by, but I can't be for certain, and it doesn't seem to get louder as the engine is revved (no load). It's happening on both sides, right around the spark plugs. Just got my truck back from the dealership to check to torque on the plugs and wonder if they screwed it up.

Here's what I think it could be; maybe someone can tell me true:

1. I am actually hearing the spark, not escaping gas.
2. Gas is actually escaping, so I should be seriously peeved. It's windy outside, so I couldn't hear if it got louder under load.

Help me out here, fellas. Sorry if it's a stupid question.

You may just be hearing the fuel injectors. They cycle off and on and sort of make a ticking sound and they are right next to the plugs.

prolly injectors, but could be a loose plug...doesnt hurt to check them anyways

 

Ya I would say it's prolly your injectors. You could try the old screwdriver as a stethescope trick.
