FTVB vs. LFP

I've heard nothing but good about Greg's product.
Anyone running with Mark's?If so how are the shifts and overall drivability?
What are the differences of the two?
I got a smokin' deal on the LFP unit, but if it doesn't perform saving a few buck$ aint worth it!
I have run with just a Line Mod valve in the past and found it to be a little "brutal".Hit like a ton of bricks, even at part throttle.
Thx for any input!

It does perform. I have tested them both. LFP unit is a quality unit. Go for it.

An impartial perosn bought one of each and did a comparison, here's the thread..

https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...ody+Comparison

For those who don't want to read it all, here's the dirt..

************************************************** **

I am the person that mentioned a comparison of the LFP & FT VB's. First I want to say Mark and Gregg, BOTH, in my opinion are great guys. I have bought things from Mark that have gone beyond my expectations, and Gregg has always been there for many L owners. This started over an issue regarding possible duplication of procedures and changes made to these units. I can honestly say these are 2 different units. Without getting into a VERY LONG description.... The LFP unit is a LARGE improvement over the stock unit, it shifts nice and crisp and works pretty much as Mark says it will. I was a little concerned regarding some aluminum fillings we found inside the unit. (we took both completely apart) These were stuck on "red" assembly grease. Other than that the unit seemed fine. (I recommend a good cleaning to those who buy one, unless this was a one time thing) The FT unit was also a change over stock.. A LARGE CHANGE! this unit can as another owner once posted "give you whiplash" on the 1-2 shift when you jump on it. Its not as harsh as it sounds but a real "seat of the pants" shift. But you can also drive in traffic and hardly feel it at all. In summary the LFP unit is 2 steps over stock ,,then the FT unit is 3 steps over stock.I have both of these units at my shop right now.. correction 1 unit is in my Lightning.. The FT unit. This is in no way a shot at Marks VB it performs as as he stated, I just feel, from what I saw, Gregg does some things to his VB that no-one else at this point can and this affects and protects my tranny the way I want it to. I WILL use Marks VB in one of my customers L that wants the performance it supplies.

SORRY FOR THE LONG POST

JON

I have Mark's no complaint's it does what it is suppose to do shift harder.I don't really think their's any rocket science it building one.

The difference is quality. Gregg builds every single one, turns his own stainless steel valves, and stands behind his products. Everybody that's read these boards for a while will have to agree that Gregg is a standup guy that won't leave you with a defective valve body. Can that be said for Art Carr?

Yeah..

Not trying to start ***** here but I am not 100% happy with my FTVB. It has been in since around July. Don't get me wrong, I have no mechanical problems with it, and it was easy to install. It's just that after reading these boards I expected some harder shifting. It seams to be a little lazy at times. Maybe something can be done with the line pressure on the chip or something.

yysenhimer,
Have you bothered to bring this to Gregg's attention? I had a problem with a used one I bought off a member here. I contacted Gregg and told him it was not shifting any harder. He sent me a brand new one 2 days later no ?'s asked. I installed the new one and it was exactly what I expected. I shipped gregg the old one and didn't owe him a dime. How many other vendors would do that?

No I didn't. I just suspected that it is working normally. I mean, it shifts a little better than stock. It actually shifted better with no Valve body and just the line pressure bumped up in the chip. Maybe it is an earlier version or something. One of the reasons why I bought this VB was because of all of the good cust service I have seen on here from Greg, and all of the rave reviews about barking tires shifting second. The only time this will bark the tires shifting second is when I am going around a slight turn.

I haven't been in another L with the VB installed so I have nothing to compare it to.

Y,
Something is not right with either the VB or your trans. I can chirp 2nd at anything over 1/4 peddle. If I go WOT I have to make sure the truck is pointed straight and I have both hands on the wheel I would send Gregg an email. I'm sure he will take care of you.

Hmmm...I hate to rip that thing out again (it is a mess with fluid dripping everywhere), but I want it to be right. Maybe I'll send him an email. Thanks.

yysenhimer,

Do what TheRipper said or go to Factory Tech's forum on NLOC and ask. Gregg will make it right if there is a problem, guaranteed! You will be barking the tires at will.
