Serious Belt Squeaking Problem!
ok, i used to just have a little squeek at start up, then it would instantly go away....
then it got alittle worse, so instead of using WD-40 because of it's known problem of "drying" out the belt and making it worse, i went to the store and got that stuff called "Belt Dressing"
now this stuff claims to not dry it out, and to have less slippage.
so i put it on and it works, but the next day it's worse, so i spray some more...
now its to the point where it is way louder than the exhaust..... it screams, and is embarassing, then when i hit the gas to go, it even gets louder!!
what the heck can i do to stop the squeak? did i just not put the belt dressing in the right place? i just sprayed it on the belts.....
do i need a new belt?

I dont have a Lightning, but I never had a time where that belt dressing stuff worked. I would just put a new belt/belts on and be done with it. How many belts does the L have? 1 or 2? Ive seen under the hood of an L before, just cant remember how many it had. That dressing stuff usually takes away the noise right then and there, but the noise usually returns within minutes or hours. It seems to me that when a belt gets glazed, thats it, its gonna squeak until you replace it.

check the idlers. If your truck is stored for the winter..like mine, it could be the bearings on the idlers Mine are in a bad way. What happens is the idlers have a hard time keepng up with the rpm's of the engine and start causing friction on the belt, which causes it to heat and crack, and even slip.
Check your belt, and the idlers

No to be honest, I havent seen any Lightnings around here, but my friend Joe is from Florham Park and he says a guy who lives right down the street from him has a newer red Lightning, 01 or 02, hes not sure. Im just wondering if its the same guy you know? Do you know a guy named Joe? He has a newer green/gray 2-tone Dodge pick up with the V10 and he also has a blue/gray 89 GT Mustang that is loud and fast as hell. Mike
