Joe: Just wondering with those dB's you're pushing if you are running the risk of cracking the rear window or anything? I know my friend's old RX-7 did with 4 10s facing the rear hatch...

of course your subs are facing your back....

No way he will crack anything. He is probably pushing around 135-140dB. I have 5-10's firing towards the rear of my Ranger (only 8" away from window) and nothing has broke/cracked in over 5 years.

He has to be pushing more than 140dB considering my TBird with 2 Ground Zero Hydrogen 12s and an RF800a2 put out 140...

Nah I bet I'm only around 140's at that. Its a different type of bass though, its all SQ and not really SPL. Figure my subs are only in a .5 cubic foot enclosure each so its not going to make the SPL but it will have that crazy KICK to it that rattles you brain. Mine won't get to deep, but it kicks!

The ID's are pretty good at making SPL but they won't make monster SPL until there in a ported enclosure or if they where in a trunk facing the rear, which I may end up doing eventually in my next work car. If I get that tiburon I'm going to order me up Two more of the new ID 10's and I'm going to put the mad crazy system in the tiburon and make that my stereo competition vehicle. I know I know I'm crazy but I like change. this isn't for another year though and by then I might just get 1 more 10 inch sub for the Tiburon and make it a full 6 10's cause I'll have more then enough room for those then and now I have an amp that will handle that load anyway. HEHEHEHEHEHE. Now in that car with a ported box I would hit some mad SPL, upper 150's I would bet with the daily driver system.

Sub Break-in

There is no 'myth' to that, makes perfect sense, the spiders that attach to the cone are very very stiff when you first get your speakers, after about 10 hours of moderate listening they will loosen up a tad which allows the sub to achieve more excursion, which means more air movement which means more bass. Any quality home speaker manufacture recommends a 24hr break in on their speakers. I sell boston accoustic speakers and the very first set i installed i thought 'geez these sound pathetic' After leaving them in the house for a month and coming back it was totally differant. Much richer sound from the mids, and deeper bass from the sub.

RT,

Just wondering something..

"There so loud that the speakers are getting overly distorted when the gains are up past half way. Yet with this concept amp you can turn it down to a more then perfect listening level that doesn't get that loud at all. "

were you overdriving the subs, or going beyond the output capabilities of the amp? Or was it a lack of power getting to the amp? My 10s stay clean till they hit their excursion limitation or bottom out on the backplate of the sub. What impedence speakers did you use? How did you wire the 5 subs to one amp?

Brandon

Cyntaxx,

I am a boston home dealer not mobile =) (doesnt mean the rep didnt hook me up on my set) =)..

Might be having a home 'fire' sale soon to get rid of some excess inventory (home equipment from Mcintosh, to Marantz) and some that a customer of mine has that hasn't been paid for yet (over a year outstanding so far)

Heard that, I'm getting ready to put a system in my evo this weekend. Already have a sweet Alpine deck .. thinking of 1 Kicker Solarbaric/removable box for the truck powerd by a JL Audio 500/1, and a JL 300/4 for the stock mids and highs (for now), with some Boston Ambient Pro tweets to get the highs kickin' a little bit! Hook me up dawg!
