Look at what I got!!!!!!!!
Hey guys I just noticed something; the instructions on this kit say I will need about 8 quarts of fluid. The SVT supplement guide says the tranny holds 15L which is close to 15 quarts. So what is up with the difference? Thanks for any help!
you answer is......
not all the fluid comes out, especially if you aren't draining the convertor, when i did mine, i think i used 7 quarts, and that is with using a bigger pan.

8 if just drop the pan and install the valve body.
When I installed mine I drained the torque converter and refilled with syntheic and it took 13 qts. Maybe I didn't get it all out of the trans

You will love this truck even more with firm shifts!
I drained my Torque Converter and installed the 4x4 pan. It took just over 13qts of Mobil 1 Syn ATF.
Note: We need this smiley please!!!

Only 10k miles on my 2kL, so do I
really need to drain converter when installing FTVB, pan & filter? Would be nice to use Mobil 1 or royal puple Syn,but lot of time left of ext. warr., so won't risk Ford voiding. Thanks for any info!
jakemarietta,
No, I have read that you do not NEED to drain the torque converter, it may not even have a drain plug depending on the build date of the converter (Aug 2001 or before has dran plug I think). My truck had it so I did it, It was easy, do it if you got it. You can use/mix Mobile 1 Syn with factory tranny fluid, just as long as you use Mercon (NOT Mercon V). Or like some have done, you can have a tranny flush done to get all fresh fluid in there.
I read that the quicker shifts (reduced friction) and the deep pan (more fluid) helps keep things cool in the tranny which would add life to the tranny.

Thanks James '01 for reply
Don't think I'll mix fluids. Real question is, do I need or would it be adviseable to drain/refill with only 10k miles? Anybody else? Guess I do have converter drain plug since it is 2k
