Traded my 2000 L for an EVO last night ...

Not sure how you guys are going to react to this, but I decided to trade my L in on an 03' black Mitsu Lancer Evolution last night. The miles on my L were strarting to get high (41K) and I couldn't bare to pay $45 every 4-5 days for gas anymore (I drive over 50 miles per day). I believe I have the first, or one the 1st EVO's in the Sarasota/Bradenton area ... and I've been awaiting its arrival for a long while now. Let me just say that the EVO looks even better in person! Although the L was a joy to own, I know I made the right decision because I prefer a fast car that corners & handles extremely well, and let me just tell you that the EVO 8 is all that. II was aware of the 300hp WRX STi coming out in the summer, but I like the look of the EVO better. I ended up paying a little over sticker but every dealer in my area is asking 5K over, and I ended paying about 2K over. Still a heck of a ride for 32K! The EVO is extremely quick and it takes corners like a dream, thanks to AWD system.

Very cool car. I saw a red one at the local auto show. Very nice ride. I may pick one up next year or possibly the STI. I just wish the would have put the 6sp in the EVO like Europe gets.

Post up some pics!

WRX's are ugly and slow..

EVO will 0wn em all, even with the new STI version coming out.

And the trick electronically controlled diffs that other markets get. They really took a lot out of this car when they brought it to the US. Gotta' meet those price points

I used to think I was a car guy, but every week some L owner is trading his truck in for something I have never heard of before. I thought an "EVO" was a Harley-Davidson engine.

Nice choice...for AWD I am still a sucker for an Audi. As far as the EVO owning the STI that will entirely depend on the driver. They have the same powerplant, and are essentially the same car. Much like the 350z and its infinity counterpart. Good luck, and where are those pics?

My buddy has the European version here in the states with all the extras the U.S. doesn't get. A total rocket ship to say the least! You ought to feel one of these things going full throttle through a sharp corner! And the braking/traction controls make it very easy to drive very fast.

Have fun!

Thanks guys ... yea the evo is the real deal. No turbo lag and extremely quick with very little, if any understeer. They did take some out of the U.S. version but I'd rather have it this way for 30K, opposed to 40-50k. Red is nice but the black seems to emphasize the wide wheel wells a little more. This thing looks nothing like a stock Lancer in person ... the pics don't do much justice since its hard to see the wide body in a side shot. I'll post pics as soon as possible ...

camcojb,

Yea I like the Audi's too but the A4 is practically the price and only 170hp ... opposed the EVO at 271. Even the build quality seems comparable if not better on the EVO, and part for part the U.S. version EVO eats the A4 alive! You would probably have to spend over 10K to get the A4 to 270hp, and you would still be missing the Brembo braking system, + many other cool features. As far as AWD, Audi is well known for it ...

Evo is a twin-scroll turbocharged 2.0 L 4 banger and Sti will be a turbocharged 2.5L 4 bang. The Sti will have 300hp, opposed to the STi's 300hp, but mods and the driver should be the ultimate difference. Still, the EVO just looks better than the the STi, IMHO. Subaru's just don't appeal to me at all ... they have a total ricer look!

See, you would think the cobras and lightnings would get brakes as nice as those. Not that we didnt get an "upgrade" to help compensate for the added weight..but we didnt get no damn Brembos. Not fair
