Question Recommended Stall Converter?

OK, the LS1 guys I was hanging with were
talking about a converter being in the torque
range for a given vehicle. Most of theirs are
up in the 3800 range.

Two questions....

Is anyone running a MIDWEST converter?

and

What do y'all run as the RPM for the Lightning's torque?

TIA ...

2400 seems good, few are running any higher and if they are its 2800.

Thanks,

What would make you choose 2800 over the 2400 ???

SVT_KY,

Untill Gavin figures out why...here is a link to a sight I found while checking on this for mine. I went 2400 stall...mostly because that was what was recommended by most of the tuners as being closest to meeting the power band in our trucks.

Probleminfected, I am about to make a joke, please don't get mad. I really am simply taking advantage of an opportunity. This joke is not meant as a flame towards you personally...more towards the direction the F150 forum has gone. (Disclaimer)

My sense of humor is not always obvious.

I have noticed that on F150 online...any time anyone asks a question about technical data or even about some specific product....a whole rash of "buy this one" posts pop up, usually followed by a couple of vendors advertising that they have them in stock.

Occasionally, the original question gets answered, but rarely. And inevitably, the post ends in a flame war over which flag flies brighter.

It is just the direction this forum has traveled with so many vendors pounding at each other for the money flying all over the place around here.

very true,

but i really do think the factory tech converter is better for street/strip, and its cheaper, unless you get the billet model

the PI is mostly for strip, and needs a bigger cooler to keep the noise down at speed

art carr just plain sucks

and to answer the question, i'd get a 2600 stall personaly

LMAO....

You threw in another infomercial....

I am sorta, kind of, wishing I had gone higher too. Mine is hitting at about 1900 instaed of the 2400 advertised. Now I have to think about the expense of taking the tranny back out to fix my F-up. I went with the 13" Art Carr...I think I should have listened to Mike T. when he told me not to go with the Art Carr.

It's only money...we'll see if I can work on finding a sweet spot in it somewhere. It did knock a tenth off my sixty foot the first night I ran with it. 1.70 sixties now.

haha you almost got me there Ron, actually the correct stall really depends on the peak torque range of your motor, you want to launch in your rpm range. ours is relatively low unlike the ls1 which can be several k higher. torque range can very from everything including manifold, cam grinds, compression, heads and rather its n/a or s/c. also a good stall might also have to do with what size slicks and gears your running, but thats just a though i pulled out of my head

yea i guess the new designed art carrs arent what they cracked up to be...

i hear yank is great, but never personally had one. only Boss Hog. i was thinking FT or yank or pi (but i hear the pi's are a bit rattley noisy)

I'm having great results with my 2400 Hughes converter, and the price is decent too.
