Best Cold Air Kit

I am interested in a cold air kit for my '01. Most of the ones I know of (JDM, PSP, JLP) use the stock corregated rubber intake tube but replace the factory air box/filter with a 12" cone element. I've seen others like Anderson Ford Motorsports' PowerPipe, AirRaid, etc. that replace the plastic tube w/ a smooth pipe. I wouldn't expect there to be much pressure drop across the corregated tube, but what do you guys think? Which one gives the best performance gains? Is there much of a difference?

Fast air or JLP Ram air. Either one works great and cools the incoming air.

I use the JLP because i didnt want to do any cutting. PSP has one extra pipe the adds more cold air.

Same here, I got the JLP kit. I believe the smooth pipes are just to look good, not sure anyone has seen any gains from them.

i have a jdm intake and it is just an open filter that attaches to the hole in the fender. Why do the JLP kits come with boxes? Do they guard against water splashing up and into the filter? Does the box restrict airflow? Has anyone ever had a problem w/ getting water in the engine. I am kinda paranoid about my open filter sucking up water anyway. Thanks

The box helps keep the hot engine air from being sucked into the filter.

Thumbs up Cold Air Kit

I've recently installed both the REM smooth intake tube in conjunction with JLP's latest Ram Air system. It looks great and they both helped me bump my best time down to 11.95 @ 112 MPH. That was with a little spin outta the hole, can't wait to try the traction at Cecil this Sat. John H.

PSP or JL's are the best out there.

I've seen the JDM kit in person and OMG what a joke for what you pay for it, but hey thats just what I observed and my persoanal opinion and by no means does it express anyone elses views on JDM or any of there products or services.

I have to agree that the JDM kit is overpriced. You can get the same from REM, LFP, BOP and Tim (chikenears) for much less.

Johnny AC, Did you have any fit problems with the REM intake tube to JL air box, I was going to order the intake tube and was told that the fit might not be right. Thanks

Bigger is not always better brothers, remember back when sal dynoed his 9" filter over the 12" filter setups and he made more power with the smaller filter! I don't remember exactly why it was but I know for a fact that these 12" filters are total over kill for our trucks anyway. If anything they only advantadge I can see is not having to clean them as often cause they have more surface area, but thats just pointless.

Sal, come on in and explain that one for us brother.
